The interface module or the bass module, so I am told by Bose tech "Phil", is the reason my CineMate system will not power up. Do you know of any other DIY solutions other than shipping the system back for them to fix.....only to have it break down again.
I have only had this system since Oct. 2007 and this is the second time with the same prob. Fortunately mine is still under 1 yr. mfg. warranty and they covered the cost of the first replacement interface module, which temporarily fixed the power up problem. This time they emailed me a UPS shipping label to send the bass module and interface module back to them, again at their expense. It seems as though it is an ongoing problem with the CineMate and I dont think they have a permanent solution. Do you know if the 3-2-1 including the dvd/receiver has the same problem or is it just the CineMate with the remote interface module.

Try powering the unit down for 30 seconds and then power it back up.If after pluging and unpluging you still have the fix red led then the IR Detector Module inside the CineMate Interface Module is not working. You have to replace it. The Part Number is 1B83 41A. You can but this part at Radio shack for under $5.00 , remove the old one and solder a new one in, 3 leads of the LED. This was the way I fixed mine
If resetting this system and re-seating the interface (box with light) to the bass module doesn't fix this, you may need a new interface module. This sells for about $40-50 from Bose. If this is under it's 1-yr warranty, they should be able to replace this for free.
So just incase you haven't tried it:
1. Unplug the power cord from the bass module (sub-woofer) along with the interface module and wait at least 30+ seconds.
2. Re-connect the interface first- screw it in as tight as can be.
3. Re-connect the power cord, and try the remote again.
This is really the only solution, and it's exactly what their tech support will have you try. That's the one functionally weak point with that system, that little module needs to be adjusted and re-seated from time to time.
Do the same thing by unplugging the power, but also unplug the interface module (box with red/green LED light) from the sub woofer / bass module, and wait 30+ seconds. Plug the interface module back in first, and screw it in as tight as possible. Then plug the power back in and try the remote. This should fix your problem. :)
If this doesn't fix it, you will have to purchase/replace this module through Bose. (anywhere from $40-$60 if not under 1-yr warranty.) If you're still under warranty, it's a free replacement.
I did the same and it worked once...spoke to "Phil" at Bose today--5/11/08 and after explaining that this was the second time and second interface mod that is having the same prob...he suggested that it is the bass module. So he emailed me a UPS shipping label to cover the cost of shipping back to MA. I am shipping the bass mod and interface mod. He said they will repair at no cost and re issue another 1 year warranty. info only: I have only had this system since Oct of 2007 and I have had the problem twice. The first solution was for bose to send me an interface mod free of charge due to the fact that the system is still under warranty.
If yous is still under warranty, I suggest you call them...if not, either buy another interface or new brand....I think this is an ongoing problem with the cinemate and THEY have NO solution either.
Hello everyone! The Bose interface module is working again. All I did was unplug the power, wait about a minute and then plugged it back in. Whatever it did, it must have reset itself, so now everything is fine.
