Sometime the kitchen has gfc outlets around the walls and one of them tripped. but not likely , it sounds like the microwave fried some valuable circuitry.

Microwave clock and panel was lit in am wasn't used but in evening when went to use it isn't lit and won't work at all

Hello Anonymous

At the risk of starting with the very basics, when you say that the clock and panel aren't lit and wont' work at all, the first place to look is the wall power. You may be missing power from the wall because:
  1. The microwave isn't plugged in. Someone may have yanked a plug to plug in a mixer, phone charger, thanksgiving animated ornament, or what have you. Trace the cord back and make sure it's plugged in.
  2. Make sure the outlet has power. Take some plug-in-able item and plug to the outlet and see if it can turn on. If not:
  1. A number of kitchen outlets may have GFI switches, especially if they are anywhere near sinks. The GFI may have been tripped. There should be a reset switch in the middle of the plug. See if it's tripped, and reset if necessary.
  2. The breaker may have been tripped. Most kitchen circuits are wired to 20Amp breakers. If this is elsewhere in the house, like in an entertainment room or such, it is likely a 15 Amp outlet. Microwaves can draw a fair amount of power. Someone using another kitchen appliance, hair dryer, or what have you, on the same circuit, may have tripped the breaker. Newer code may specify an AFI or GFI breaker for kitchen outlets. In that case, a fault with something else on the circuit may have tripped the breaker. If that is the case, and it trips again, talk to an electrician. You don't want a fault like that undiagnosed.

    3) You may also want to try plugging the microwave into another outlet, even if the normal outlet seems OK

If there's wall power and a good plug-in, then you work back to the microwave itself. A number will have fuses. Also, there may be interlocks that kick in if, for instance, the carousel rotation is impeded - that can mean something on the carousel is hitting a wall, which can risk tipping something over and spilling, or risk mucking up the reduction gears for the carousel axle if it keeps pushing.

At that point, looking for specifics on your microwave model will be needed. You may also try the Microsoft Support approach - i.e unplug it for 5 minutes, then plug it back in and see if it works.

    Hoping this helps, Good Luck!

Wont work or come on

Debbie,
If nothing is coming on with no lights or anything you probably have a blown fuse. Unplug your microwave and turn it around and remove the screws holding cover on and then remove the cover. Look for where the power cord goes into the back of the unit and follow the black wire from the cord to where it ends. It should stop an either a circuit board or a fuse holder. Make sure that you replace the fuse with the same amperage fuse as what you take out. You will find the amp rating stamped on one of the silver collars on each end of the fuse. Good luck!

I have a Sharp Carousel model R-1874-T. It suddenly stopped working. No lights are on. I checked the outlet and there is power coming there. Is there a way to reset the microwave?

Magnetron is gone, just to be sure remove the microwave and use on a different socket. sometimes the breaker becomes faulty after 10 AMPS.

I went to use my mirowave & it is completely gone. I pushed every button that I could & nothing happens. What should I do

first check the breaker in the electrical panel. your microwave should be on a circuit with nothing else. Depending on when the house was constructed. If the breaker is tripped turn it off and back on. If the microwave is plugged into a gfic outlet check to see if the receptacle needs reset. There will be a reset button on the receptacle. Their may be a orange light on the receptacle.

The microwave stopped working

Ck your gfci breaker in your wash room or bath room. If this dosn't fix it it may be an internal fuse. If this is the case you will need to find what caused breaker to blow or it will happen again.

Microwave won't turn on. Seems like it is not getting power. I checked breaker. I am looking for a fuse. You know where one is? It is a GE Spacemaker(2 yrs old) model # JVM1440WH04

  • Make sure that the microwave is plugged into a grounded outlet. It must be a 3-prong outlet.
  • Make sure the clock is set.
  • Check to see if a programming sequence was entered. Sometimes improper programming or a program sequence such as delay start can cause the touch panel to be non-responsive. Unplug microwave or turn off house circuit breaker for 30 seconds. Plug back in, or reset circuit breaker, and try reprogramming unit.
  • Check the house circuit breaker or fuse box. If the microwave is DEAD and there is no display and nothing works- the problem could be a blown fuse or tripped breaker.

Need your insight and troubleshooting on problem w/ our microwave

This could be the breaker at the panel or the fuse inside the microwave.I would check the panel box for any tripped breakers and then the fuse inside the unit.

The built-in microwave went dead as I attempted to screw in a new light. It arc'ed, then there was zero power to the unit. Is there an in-line fuse or circuit-breakers?

was cooking on the stove below the microwave and had the fan on. the nicrowave went out all together and will not come back on. it did not blow a fuse in the breaker box. is there a reset button or something to turn back on
