Question about Computers & Internet
On this laptop the default behaviour is that you cant access the function keys (F1, F2, ...) unless you press the Fn button.
the normal meaning of the keys is "turn off wifi, switch screen output, volume up/down, etc"...
this is very annoying...
there is a setting in the BIOS for swapping the behaviour. then the keys are functioning as "function keys" again
It is already mention in the setup guide we received with the Laptop at the time of purchase. See Pg. no. 20. Solution is that When laptop boot press F2 (Only) Bios setup under Function Key Behavior.
You can change here to Function key first.
Here's what you need to do. if the below solution does not work with the F2 key .... use F12 instead in the following instructions.
"Hold down the Fn key and the F2 key when your computer is booting up. You have to do it before you get the Windows Screen. If you get the Windows screen you are too late and you cannot access the System setup. Once you open the system setup go to System Configuration, then find Function Key Behavior. Change it from Multimedia first to Function Key First. Do Not change anything else you can cause yourself problems. Just change that only. If you think you inadvertantly changed something just exit without saving changes. The exit options will be at the bottom of the screen. If you do change the Function Key Firsy only. Save Changes and Exit."
then go to msconfig and in the "startup" tab, unclick the "ALPS Pointing Device Driver". Then restart the laptop.
