Question about Hoover S3765-040 WindTunnel Bagless Canister Vacuum

1 Answer

Hoover S3765-040 vacuum cleaner. At high motor speed, starts to smell something burning. Opened the motor assembly; removed the motor from its housing; powered it; and see major sparking where the bushings touch the motor. Does this mean the motor is toast? Can I buy a new motor? It says the motor is LG UMC400L2 120V 60Hz 060522-D Made in Korea. There is also a black foam covering around the motor which is full of dirt and hair and is messed up. Does that come with the motor? Thanks

You are correct, the motor is done. Look at your local vac store for a quality vacuum made by Sebo or Miele. Replacing motors in chinese made vacs is a waste of money as the whole product was made to last only a couple of years

SOURCE: Hoover windtunnel will NOT turn on

You have to remove the motor cover, There I believe 5 screw, take off the light lens and remove the screw holding the light. It should then pull off. You say you have power to the Vac, but do you have power to the motor. There also is a thermo by the motor, sometimes they open up, then the motor won't run.

SOURCE: Hoover WindTunnel Canister: Roller brush motor not turning

These motors have a fuse incorporated in the field winding and it sounds like that blew. These motors sometimes overheat at the front bearing and the bearing will melt into the plastic housing. This will cause the fuse to blow. It sounds like that's your problem. You can remove the motor by removing the three screws on the bottom of the powerhead and then check the front bearing for any bubbling or blistering in the plastic housing. The shaft of the motor should turn easily.

SOURCE: How do I change the belt in a Hoover U4262-930

You got the second hardest part done; the hardest part is what you're asking about.
To get the new belt onto the drive shaft I used a long screwdriver for leverage and wrapped the end close to the shaft and with some elbow grease, got it to "slip" on to the shaft. It took a couple of tries, but once I overcame the fear of the belt breaking (because it has to stretch big time), I managed to get it one. Of course, the other end of the belt has to be wrapped around the roller first.
I found a link for a tech manual for this model, but it didn't help much....
good luck.

SOURCE: high pitch

The Hoover Fusion has design flaws in the motor, including a metal plate that is too thin to contain the forces acting on the motor, particularly the constant strong tension from the drive belt, and a plastic plate that is attached to the metal plate by two screws that gradually loosen over time. Assuming the filters and canister are clean, a high-pitched noise coming from the motor indicates it is about to fail as a result of these problems. You can replace the motor after it fails, but the problem will eventually occur again. For those very mechanically inclined, when the motor first starts making the high-pitched noise, you can dismantle it and tighten all screws.

My hoover steam vac is making a horrible noise and smells like its burning

Something may have jammed the brush roller, preventing rotation. This causes the motor shaft to rotate in one spot on the belt, causing the burning rubber smell. Eventually, the belt will break. You need to find what caused the jam and remove it. It would be a good idea to replace the belt as a burned belt is unlikely to last much longer.

Anytime someone says they smell something burning on any type of vacuum cleaner of carpet cleaner etc. All I can think of is the belt is rubbing on plastic which would cause the sense of something burning because you possibly are smelling the belt........

Hoover carpet cleaning started to smell like it's burning and black chunks of rubber came out

Nan, there's obviously a belt that's shot and needs to be replaced. If it started to smell, then it was probably bound up at some point in it's travel path, that stops it from running and the motor shaft burns it's way through the belt, making the smell.

What does it smell like? If it smells like burnt anything-it could be that the fan is broken and lodged in the motor. You can see if the fan is good just by looking into it.

Burned smell

If the motor slowed down this would indicate a bad motor. not cost effective on this model to replace unless under warranty. it is not uncommon these days to see a motor go bad every now and then.

What are the first 4 digits of your serial number? this would be the month and year of mfr. even without a receipt, a warranty service shop should be able to assist you.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It sounds to me like you have multiple problems with your power drive; a burning smell and the brushes don’t turn, and the dop is on March, 2008 – the Hoover Steam Vac Shampooer has a one year factory warranty and it could be a broken part for the brushes won’t turn or a belt would cause the burning smell. If it is not the belt or broken part it probably is the motor of which you should take it to a authorized Hoover vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to contact the Hoover factory cust serv listed below or the Hoover website for information. If it is the motor the factory authorized dealer will replace the part for the motor and the broken part for the brushes, if it is the belt that would be an out of pocket expense. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Hoover Elite Rewind Vacuum, smells like a burning motor and is not sucking anymore! Help!!

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. If the motor has a burning smell, it could be the belt but in most cases it would be the motor and that would be in need of replacement. You can try to replace it yourself but there would not a warranty for self installation. If you have an authorized vacuum cleaner dealer do the install then it would be warranted for one year. You can check with the Hoover manufacturer if you like. If you have further questions please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area, or contact the Hoover website and or the cust serv phone # @ Hoover listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
