Hi, here's what you need to do. You can mix up a solution of dish soap and water 50/50 in a spray bottle or run to a hardware store and but a bottle of gas leak detector that is soap and water and spray down all of your fittings and pipes that carry gas. Check the gas flex line that supplies gas to the furnace. Look for bubbles to appear as they will. When you find this leak, take a wrench and tighten it down. You can also call your local gas company and tell them you have a gas leak. They will come out free of charge to do this for you, as this can be a danger. They will get right on it. This is what I would have you do, as they will be there very fast to take care of this for you. Please don't forget to rate me, and I know you will be kind. Call them right away, and don't worry as there is know charge for this.

Why the pilot light on my gas water heater won't light?

  • Bad gas valve
    • More expensive of fix

  • Bad thermocouple
    • Less expensive of fix, try this first
    • It sits in the pilot burner assembly, right next to pilot flame. It senses the heat on the tip of the thermocouple and then generates just enough electricity to operate the heaters gas valve. It makes just under 1 volt, these are called MiliVolts.

  • No fuel?
    • Is there a shut off valve, did someone turn it off?

Why won't the pilot light stay lit?

You have a "pilot generator" that sits in the flame of the pilot light. This generates a low voltage output from the flame of the pilot light. This voltage goes to the gas valve and tells the valve that the pilot is lit and to keep the pilot gas line open.
In almost all cases replacing the pilot generator will resolve the issue . They run about $60-$75.
Other causes may be the gas valve itself or a short in the safety loop, in either case should be looked at by a pool tech.

Minimax plus sparks but no pilot

Sparking means all safety circuts are satisfied so problem is no gas to pilot. Possibilities are in order of common occurance; spider web in pilot oriface, stuck gas valve (most common on spring start up after heater has been sitting out of use), pilot tubing leaking, no gas supply from house.

My water heater won't light. The pilot light works. But, when I try to swtch the pilot to regualr, the flame goes out.

You probably have a defective thermocouple. The thermocouple sits in the flame of the pilot, and the heat generates a small electrical current conducted back to the gas valve, keeping the pilot gas line open after you switch it to the "on" position. That's why you have to manually hold the gas valve depressed (on) during lighting in the "pilot" position, allowing the thermocouple time to heat up enough to generate its current. A defective thermocouple will not generate the holding current.

I have a desa international heater. The gas is getting to heater but will not lite. Can see the ignitor is sparking but not lighting pilot light

how long has this uniy been off? did you purge the gas? you can loosen the pilot tube at the pilot, with your hand on the off switch and purge there. you can spray a soapy water to see if the gas is flowing, will blow bubbles. if you smell ags or pilot lights turn off tighen and refire. check pilot for leaks again.

The water heater pilot does not stay on?

The pilot light on hot water heaters is controlled by a thermocouple, a small copper rod that usually sits in or very close to the pilot light flame. When they go bad, which is not unusual, they do not allow the gas line to stay open and feed the pilot light. The easiest thing for you to do would be to replace the thermocouple. When following the pilot light lighting instructions, be sure to hold the valve button down for 30-45 seconds in order for the pilot light to heat the thermocouple prior to turning on the gas burner.

Water wizard 10P pilot light keeps going out

If the thermocoupler is defective the gas to everything is shut off. The coupler is the bulb that sits ib the pilot flame If it doesn't heat up it will sense no pilot and shut the gas off. They don't cost much and are easy to change. Good Luck, Ned

Pilot light not working in gas heater

That probe that sits in the pilot flame is at fault. Remove and replace. Inexpensive fix. Make sure probe is in the tip of the pilot flame. If it does not stay hot enough, it will shut off the gas.

Wather heater will not ignite

You'll probably need to ignite the pilot light before it will allow gas to flow for the heater to ignite and warm the water.. Most controls have a Pilot position that you switch it to , than using a long match .. locate the pilot light in the access opening at the bottom and get the pilot light to stay lit.. Hope that helps...
