Question about Dryers

2 Answers

Dryer will not stay heated. It heats up initially, but after about 5 or 10 minutes it will it get cool again and not reheat. I ran the self diagnostic test and it showed a fault code of F:01, which is machine control electronics module. I ordered the new electronic control module and installed it. The new module was delivered in a damaged box and not packed in the anti static bag. I ran the self diagnostic test again and showed that everything is operating correctly, but did not solve the problem. I then began checking everything else that I could. The glow plug glows but no gas is being fed to create a flame. I checked all the sensors with an ohmmeter and and all seem to be operational. I also checked the coils on the gas valve and seem to be good as well. Could the machine control electronics module be bad because of poor packaging and shipping or possibly a wiring harness problem? I can't think of what else to check. If you have any ideas please let me know or if you have experienced similar problems, what did you do to resolve it?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. It seems to be the issue with the Thermal Fuse going bad and needs to be replaced. It is mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel; I am saying this as everything else seems to be working fine. If you test the fuse and its fine then it is the control panel itself which is bad and you can return it back. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Disconnect the exhaust vent and run the dryer
If it stays heated well you need to replace the vent tubing or clean them out thoroughly. A moister control sensor detects any lint build up and puts the heat into a check mode

SOURCE: glow plug glows flame lights up after 30 sec flame

If the burner assembly lights, then the problem is usually not with the igniter or regulator. More than likely the gas valve safety coils need to be replaced. There are two of them on the burner assembly. You need to replace BOTH of them at the same time.

If the model number is correct, you can view and illustration of your burner assembly here:

http://pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

The coils are listed as items 729 and 731. Part numbers WE4X692 and WE4X693, respectively.

If you have any questions, or if your model number differs from the one you listed this question under, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Gas Dryer wont stay lit.

It may be your dryer vent piping. If the piping from the dryer to the outside of the house is clogged with lint (which happens periodically) the dryer cannot get rid of the heat generated by the gas burner. When the temperature reaches a certain level the high limit switch opens and shuts the burner off. The switch closes again after the dryer cools down. Check the lint filter and all the vent piping for any obstructions and clean out thoroughly. This should solve your problem. Hope this helps.

if the dryer runs and heats for a short time and then no flame you have bad gas coils, when they are failing they work until they heat up and cut out, when they cool down the heat will work again for like the first 10 to 20 minutes and then cut out again.take out the two phillips screws on top of the gas valve, remove the top cover and change out the coils, check the coil with the three prongs on it or check the post you pull it off of,there should be a spacer on the post,if you don't see it on the post look in the hole of the coil,if it's in the coil poke it out and slide it back on the post, easy fix

Does not stay hot

The problem is the dryer coils have failed. They tend to fail as they heat up. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. Try these videos http://appliancehelponline.com/gdryertroublevideo.html

My whirlpool dryer heat does not stay on. when i first start it , its hot then the heat turns off. it continues going with no heat

With the limited information you gave I will assume this is a gas dryer that the flame starts for a minute or so and then shuts off. This problem is going to be your safety valve coils...basically they get old and over time of heating then cooling develop a short when they heat up...It may appear the gas lights to start but then goes out until the safety valve coils cool back down. Here is a picture of the coils 57d5263.jpgThis The coils are mounted to the gas safety valve, This should solve your problem. Hope this helps, Please feel free to comment again if you have any further questions or concerns. Good Luck! Mike

Heat will not stay on

Hi, very common problem.

The problem is with the gas coils.
When they get weak, they only come on for about 10 minutes and then the machine will blow cold air. There are 2 of them with one being the booster coil. They come in a pair and run less than $20.

Best of luck. Please e-mail me if you have any other questions.

Sounds like the motor may be getting hot and kicking out on the motor overload switch. When it cools down it will reset.
