Question about Zio Corporation CameraMate RealTime (cm-50000) Video Capture

1 Answer

I got a new laptop with Windows 7 and cannot install Zio CameraMate. Isn't there some update to keep your product working? Or should I look for another brand?

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1750 running windows 7. On the Quick Start Guide the serial #/software code is PPW-F559-516F-F948-78EC. The sheet has 450028 at the bottom. The included hardware is VideoSafe. The user manual is on the CD, which does not open with windows 7. The software installation guide says that if another Zio Corp productd is on the computer, to be sure to highlight the line "USB Video Device Zio d:\windows\inf\nuvaud 2.inf" and click that choice. The title on these papers is "CameraMate - VideoSafe with ProPix DVD." Other than this I find no model numbers.

Since it works with Windows XP, is there a way I can load XP onto my laptop in addition to Windows 7?

I need to know the exact model you have. So far I can find no driver that will work with Windows 7 but I will look some more once I know exactly what you have.

Zio CameraMate is out of business and was purchased by SmartDisk. If yours looks like this:

It is a model CM53000. I can find no driver for Windows 7 and I looked long and hard. Sorry I tried.

Yes, you could partition your hard drive and install XP on the other partition, but you would have to purchase XP which would cost more than buying a new device that will do the same thing as CameraMate. Another option is to download and install Windows Live Movie Maker on your laptop. Then transfer the movies to a DV camera and then upload to your computer if you have a firewire port. Use Movie Maker to create the video. You can get WLMM here.
If you do not have a firewire port then you will need a capture device that you can connect to a USB port. Here is one for $20.
Remember video takes lots of hard drive space. Around 3 mb per second of video. So make sure you have a large enough had drive to handle this.

The solutions posted here DO NOT WORK. The link given has a lot of different sites. None of them are for a Win 7 64 bit solution. Do not buy any Zio product. No telling what you'll get.
