Screen flickers and then turns gray

Help me help me
I have a tosh satellite A135. I have had an ongoing problem with the screen turning black but this was rare and I would just reboot. NOW my screen is flickering and going gray with a few black lines across. The machine seems to be just beginning to do startup when this happens - what I mean is that the background picture will come up for a few seconds and then it goes to gray blank. FYI once it went all they way to almost completing all the loading and then went Fitz to a gray screen. please help me

Access BIOS and test if the flickering continues.
If not, it is a Software problem, do a full system recovery
If yes, it is a hardware issue, better contact Toshiba tech support to have your LCD repaired if you are still in warranty.

If your not in warranty, you need to check out the LCD harness that might have been loosely connected.

Hope this helps...

Screen keeps going black. Will come on after

It sounds like a problem with the backlight, but could be a cabling problem as well, or a voltage problem (least likely).

1800 series is an older Tosh laptop..and unfortunately there isnt an easy way to reset it. Since I have a Tosh laptop also, I was more than just casually interested in your dilemma..what I found is that you have to get whats called a loopback adapter and attach to the parellel port and start it up. The loopback is altered so that certain pins are shorted across(not as bad as it sounds) so that the BIOS resets. Try this website if you feel up to the task.

Black screen when I turn on my computer

Defective CCFL backlight may has the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
