D-Link DWL-G510 Connected but no packets

I have installed two D-Link G510 cards to two seperate computers an have been attempting to share the internet from a USB SB5101 Motorola broadband modem from one PC to the other, the wifi cards detect eachother and display they have connected via Ad Hoc, however no signal strength or packet transmissions are displayed on the AirPlus graphs and I cannot access the internet. Any theories?

Hi,
According to the user guide for your motorola broadband modem it doesnot support wirless capability , ie it can only hook your computers to the interenet using the wire. refer the following link

http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/SB5101/downloads/SB5101_UG_EN.pdf

What is required , is additional pair of hardware ie.
1. Wireless Router(eg linksys or netgear)
or
2.Router/broadband modem(given by the ISP)

Your connection would then be configured through the wireless router , that would give you wireless capability.

Refer to the following link , it gives you the a step by step guide to setting up the wireless connection .

Best of luck .....

Thanks

PS Do let me know if you need more assitance.

Ah...found it!

I think that with XP service pack 3, it caused a problem with the wireless card driver.

I just installed the latest driver, and it connected for me without a problem. Here's a link to the driver:

Same

You may want to check your power supply and make sure that it meets the requirements for your system, a lack of sufficient power can ofter cause a computer to restart or freeze.

Your card uses 15 dBm ± 2dB

If this is a laptop, make sure to plug in the machine as power is limited while your laptop is unplugged.

If you've done all the math and the power supply isn't the problem, you may wish to try your card in another pc. If the card doesn't take in either machine, you should contact d-link and ask for a replacement.

Here are the drivers:

The hardware version is given on the bottom of the device. Example: H/W ver.:A1 or H/W ver.:B1

If you have DWL G510 rev A:

find which product is yours and look inside and go into knoledge base.

Kim: if that specific info happens to be avaliable online it most likely be here http://support.dlink.com/SupportFAQ/default.asp?model=DWL%2DG510 (model a) or http://support.dlink.com/SupportFAQ/default.asp?model=DWL%2DG510%5FrevB (model b)
.. although I doubt it is as it may be propriatary or only accesible through the technitians at the manufacturer facility... the best you can do is to install the software and test it..

you need to know this item is discontinued

Windows XP SP3

Hello, Lore.
Did you mean DWL-6510 or DWL-G510?
I have some comments for the last one; if it is not your PCI-card, I hope the solution is alike, at least.
My PCI-card is G510 version C and I recently posted a comment on a certain Internet Forum. See what I wrote:

First of all: D-Link simply mistreated all the costumers who bought version Cx.
The best thing to do:
1- Get the latest drivers from Australia site - www.dlink.com.au - (look for SUPPORT and not "quick find").
2- Specially for Win XP-SP3, try the USA site; you will need to follow this path because the update file is very hidden on the site: click support / FAQ / search for "G510 SP3" and see the answer for the only question that is there (so far); download the newest driver for SP3; this driver has no installer; you will have to use it as an update if you have already a driver installed (click "properties" and "update driver" on the device located at control panel / system / hardware); if you have no driver already istalled, you will have to do the opposite of DLink directions: install phisically the card before installing driver, click start / control panel / system / hardware and search for a "?" sign, click on it and provide it the downloaded driver.

Good luck!!

DWL-G510 with error DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Hello guys

Its clearly a problem with the drivers
you can get the drivers from right here
http://support.dlink.com/products/revision.asp?productId=DWL-G510

You might have to open your pc and remove the wireless card to make sure which revision the card is since installing the wrong drivers can cause this exact problem!

If this solution was any help at all please rate it as helpfull or fixya.
