Ours does the same thing. My husband researched it online. The cheap solution is to unplug the TV (or plug the TV into a power strip and switch it off) when you are done watching it. A computer board inside overheats, and it's a built-in protection mechanism for it to turn off. Otherwise, it's over $100 to fix the computer board.

Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service.

You TV has a bad CRT, a red CRT by the sounds of it. This TV is rather old, perhaps 11-13 years of age? Your TV has given you many years of service and I do applaud you for the care you have given it and the TV for it’s reliable in your home. The trouble you face with a rear projection CRT set of this age is that you can’t just change 1 CRT tube and expect it to be reliable and produce a good picture. All 3 tubes should be replaced, as they have all aged the same. The lives of these tubes are only about 7 years. A tube is not any easy or inexpensive repair on any RPJ TV. When you are faced with the cost of 3 tubes, which may not even be available in the market place… You should consider retiring this old friend and keep the manufacture in mind as you make a new purchase.

My TV is almost 5 years old. Barely used more

Howdy,
Sounds like the TV has lost the VIDEO and only has color. Make sure all the cables are secure and good. 2) Reset the TV by unplugging the TV or any BOX you have attached to TV. Unplug both from a/c for 3-5 minutes, plug back in and turn both on.
If no fix. Go to service Company that is Authorized and get an estimate, possible cost $450.00 +. Too many areas of concern to help you with particulars.

Good Luck, Big Irish.
