Any suggestions??

Note: with regard to previous comment~before I changed capacitors I was getting picture and all functionality: input select, menu, volume, channel change, etc. just had the problem of inabilty to power tv on-4 red blinking lights-had to power cycle (unplug) multiple times and then would power up... After reading about other people and their similar issues I changed the 2 10V 3300UF 105C capacitors... Now tv powers on fine but no pic nor access to channel change, menu, input select, volume,-just get lines on screen? Not sure what I could have done-pretty straight forward process with replcement of capacitors and that in fact seems to have been done proper because tv is now powering up but now no pic/functionality? Any idea what may have happened to cause this?

    Thanks

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. A plasma TV is a very hard working device. It is working harder than any TV that has been built before, and as a result it produces a lot of heat. 75% of technical problems in plasma TV's are caused by overheating problems. You’ll need to check the power supply board first for any swollen/bulged capacitors. As power supply board is the hardest working board in a plasma TV, it develops voltage to supply all components, high current + high voltage. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise & know how to solder/re-solder components as these units contain high voltages even when switched off. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

On some they replaced capacitors:

TV will not power on-red - dbdfd9a.jpg

3300uf 10V 2 pcs

on the Power Board, One has to check on it.

It could also be from bad MOSFET and/or oscillators.

But try on capacitors first.

One have to take voltage measurement ( assuming you have replaced

the capacitor in right order ) .

there is a 3.3V Regulator, besides the other output voltages.

post voltages on the connectors so i can help you further,

just like i said above , it could also be from MOSFET,

check for fuses , could also be zener diode on other board.

Although replacing the Power Board does not guarantee

    it will work.

4 to 5 Blinks still on the power board one has to look and check on it.

post voltages so we can establish where the fault lies.

Post Voltages when the unit is in standby,

    when the unit turn on

and use a DVD player as the source or other media player like VCR

use video Input if you can select Video, protection comes after 3seconds

    when you turn it On

after Voltage Measurement , you need to have a service manual

to properly guide you in right order,

    here is the link,

    Philips/Magnavox - Plasma Television - 50MF231D/37 Service Manual ...

    only with a fee,

But if you can post voltages, then will try to work these out

without the voltages applied, no one can never know what is happening on

your TV circuits.( cause we cant see your unit much as we do not

know what is exactly your board part number is ) , there are three available

    i just hope yours is having " A "

your problem could also be on other board, but like i said

check for fuses , if it is bad, MOSFET's are included .

Recheck and triple check your soldered components and post voltages

    on that capacitor .

here additional regulators that you should check:

Another alternative ( only to be safe when troubleshooting )

Use an external Power Supply 12V in lieu of 12V generated by the TV Power

    Supply.

These would be a lot safer, Measuring Voltages on the Board.

Although the unit will not come totally on , but the process of

" Divide and Conquer " Style will help you troubleshoot safely.

These is just only a tip.

Hello sir, hi, did you take precaution like putting on anti static wrist wrap? or before touching the main board, did you hold ground to discharge static electricity that may be on your body? when this things happen, damage to the main board is likely. Recheck your work on the capacitors, you may need to isolate the power supply and check for voltage drops across every capacitor. If you have a 3300 uf 10v capacitor, you should get a voltage drop of 10v or less. If no voltage present, go backwards and check where the voltage disappears. Until you find and replace the bad section or part.

Why dos tv still blinking red with no power

If you pull the plug out of the wall, it should stop. Otherwise it's a reminder that you have switched it off by handset but it is still live. If the TV works ok, ignore it, it is probably just an economy reminder. If the TV does NOT work, you may have a fault on the power supply board. Have you read the manual to see if it mentions the red light?

Press the power button on the tv
(The tv will turn itself off the back on)
Now release the reset button

It sounds like the lamp needs replaced.

No picture and no sound

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.

Zenith DLP-Projection tv 42"

Try this solution which I found on Fixya

This solution is for the zenith 56" DLP. Unplug the tv, either from the wall socket or the TV. While the TV is unplugged hold the power button on the TV for 40 seconds. This lets the excessive power drain from the TV. If this does not work call 1-800-243-0000. This is the number for their help line. This is the fix the tech gave me and it worked right away. Hope this helps and have a great day.
