I just had this very same thing happen tonight. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have many papers that are due and need to be printed ASAP. In addition to the little plastic strip coming out, mine keeps saying to "clear the carrier". There is nothing in there to be cleared. However, when the carrier moves from side to side it makes the loudest banging sound (loud enough to wake the dead)!!!! Again... any and all tips to fix this would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I have the same problem and so far I cannot find where to stick it back in. It won't print now and I am afraid if I keep turning it back on it is going to break completely. Does anyone know where this stick goes?

The only thing I could find on Dell was that the mystery strip is probably the printer's encoder strip but they don't give any guide to reinstalling the thing. They have a vague picture of where it goes but only if it is loose and not off. Let me know who has a solution.

    I have same problem.

How about a professional solution suggestion instead of some flip response. I thought you guys had experts on staff. You have four complaints about the same problem with the DELL AIO 924 but no one with a solution other than some proposal to spend money on one of your products.

The plastic strip prevents your ink cartridges from clanking from side to side. All you need to do is open up the prineter and hook one side of the strip to a metal hook (lip) on the left side. Than put the strip through the back side of the ink cartridges. Lastly, hook the right side of the strip to a hook spring located on the right side of the printer. Note: the spring should not be attached to the metal lip that is to the left of it. Good luck!

You have three solutions if it's out of warranty. Take it or send it in for repairs, which will cost you. Take it apart, which will also be costly, but educational, if you are so inclined. Or send it to Dell with a complaint, and who knows, sometimes they miraculously give you another one! I emphasize the word miraculous.

Carrier jam message. Changed the ink cartridge and the housing now slams from side to side. A plastic strip came off and I dont know where it goes (maybe an encoder or something)

Check the user manual, it should have the diagrams to let you know where does it go. Moreover, if it looks broken and is not working at all, then its time for a new one.

The printer keeps jamming with the paper only going half way through and the grinding noise keeps going as if it is continuing to print. It appears as though it is hanging.

Where do you insert the ink cartridges for the dell 924?

You lift the Top cover, and wait for the ink carriage to take place in the middle of the rail. Lift the plastic lid holding the old cartridge in place. Then snap the old ink cartridges pulling toward yourself and then up. Put new cartridges in reverse order.

Paper keeps misfeeding in Dell AIO 924

I first wonder if you have children. if so, then open the lid and/ or look in the paper feed area for plastic tools, band aids, etc. (worked in tech support and once had a gerbil stuck in a printer by it's tail! OUCH!)

if you can't see anything, then take a letter sized piece of poster board and try to run it through, that should clear any foreign debris (such as paper clips or pieces of post-it notes that you may not be able to see) good luck!

I just purchased a Dell printer with complete Monotor and computer. All in 1. I am unable to get the printer set on English. I have tried using the arrow buttons and English Language will not come up on...

Hi Tatum,

Not to worry - this is easily fixed. Normally, when you turn on the printer for the first time, you can set the language immediately by using the up and down arrow buttons to select English. If for some reason it didn't get set correctly the first time, here's the way to reset it:

1) Turn off the printer.
2) When it's off, press and hold the POWER button and the UP ARROW button at the same time.
3) When the printer turns on, the language settings will appear again. Use the up and down arrows to choose English, and press MENU to select it.

For your reference, the 924 user manual can be viewed at the following web address:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/924/en/om_en/om_en.pdf

I hope this helps - please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

924 Printer

'Band?'
Does it look like a strip of clear plastic with very fine vertical lines?
Or, does it have teeth molded into it?

The former is used to determine the position of the carriage and is normally mounted through a narrow slot in the carriage and should have small holes at the ends.
One of these ends will be mounted on an immobile hook, the other will have some kind of spring to maintain a little tension on the band.
These will be located at opposite ends of the printer beyond the normal travel of the carriage.
Some printers want these oriented in a particular way; front/back left/right but most don't care much how they are mounted.
Look for markings that might indicate a specific orientation.

If it has teeth, it ain't a band :-( it's the drive belt and the printer will have to come apart to replace it with one that doesn't have any 'ends.'
Don't know the specifics of your printer and the difficulty in replacing these varies widely, depending on the stupidity of the designers.

Small thin film fell out

Try to cut off a thin plastic strip. just try to copy that. it basically guides the cartridge on where to print. also i remember that it should have a spring connected to the holes.
