Have you asked the IT department if ping is something their network allows ?

  • Jason May 11, 2010

The reason it's getting information from the linksys is b/c the linksys is acting as a DHCP server. What are you connecting it to on the company network?

They are correct a lot of networks will block an echo request or a "ping" because or security and bandwidth issues. Just because your device will not pint doesn't mean its not on the network. I would check with your IT department.

1. Open you web router management
2. Under Network > WAN tab, make sure you enable this option and change the primary and secondary DNS server to the ones below, they are google DNS. Save it and reboot. Hope this helps

Hi, I am unable to generate a ping test with windows 7. I have followed the answer already posted

Network administration is a serious job. This is especially true for companies that rely on computers to input, process and share data. The more computers or nodes in the network, the harder it gets to manage them. Fortunately, there are several tools can greatly simplify your job. They are called network monitoring tools. Many of them are open-source programs, and they are ready for download and installation.

Don't mistake these programs as simple tools for just monitoring if a device is turned on or off. They are full-pledged remote access programs that allow an administrator to view all devices that are connected to the network (routers, modems, servers, printers etc.) and all the processes being run in each node. If you are a network administrator, you'll need specific programs for different jobs.

Network Monitoring Utilities

Network Ping and Softperfect Network Scanner are the tools for the job. Network Ping gives you a visual overview of all the computers connected to your network. It checks the network status by sending each device a ping. If the device is down an email alert can be sent to an administrator.

Softperfect Network Scanner or NetScan is popular lightweight software that detects all devices attached to your router or access point. It pings all possible IP addresses to determine which computers are currently being used. It is also integrated into the Windows Explorer, allowing you to view all shared files and folders through the NetScan interface.

Intrusion Prevention System (IPS)

The most popular IPS worldwide is Snort. In real time, it analyzes packet capturing and network traffic on IP networks. With its analysis of protocols, Snort can identify network attacks and attempts to perform unauthorized actions such as fingerprinting, buffer overflows and port scanning. With this software running, you are guaranteed that your office network is safe from intrusions. Snort can record packets and generate human-readable reports.

Remote PC and Server Management

Putty and the "Dude" are network monitoring programs for the Windows platform. They track all devices in your network and they can generate a network map or inventory depending on the nodes currently online. Putty, in particular, is very light at 450 kb because of its UNIX-based interface. It allows you to set administrator privileges in remotely controlling computers. Putty can also manage bandwidth allocation or block IPs from using DSL internet.

Having the right network monitoring tools for the job helps network administrators automate many of the day to day operations that take up time and resources to complete.

Connection issues

To troubleshoot the issue follow the below steps

1.Try disbaling and enabling the wireless lan card

2.Check whether Ip addresses assigned in the wireless network card.If the address is assigned by dhcp and not assigned in network card means assign static ip in the range supported in the networkand ping the website or gateway.

3.If the ip is assigned already means try pinging the gateway and dns server .If ping is success means the connection between router and pc and internet is good .In that case you have to check whether authentication is successful if any authentication is used.

Please connect me to Pulkit558

Hi Sir,
I guess you chose a wrong option. This is not Chat but let me give you the instructions on how to get your prints working on both macs.

First of all check the ip address of the mac. Check it on both macs. To do that follow the instructions below.

Step 1. Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen.
Step 2 Select "System Preferences".
Step 3. Select "Network" under the "Internet and Network" section.
Step 4 Select which connection you'd like to check in the "Show" drop-down menu. If you're hooked up via ethernet, select "Built In Ethernet". If you have a wireless network, select "AirPort".
Step 5 Select "TCP/IP" on the "Network" screen.
Step 6 View your computer's IP address on the subsequent screen displayed on your Mac.

Now you know the ip address of your mac.

Now we have to ping the ip address and have to check if there is connectivity between macs. Follow the instuction below to check that :

Step 1. On Finder in the dock.
Step 2 Click on Macintosh HD in the window.
Step 3 Click on Applications.
Step 4 Click on Utilities.
Step 5 Double-click on Network Utility.
Step 6 In the Network Utility window, click on the Ping tab.
Step 7 In the field under "Please enter the network address to ping"(enter the ip adress of other computer)
Step 8 Click the Ping button.

Try theses steps first and check if they have connection.

The computer you are conserned about most likely doesn't receive DHCP, but either manually configured or gets the APIPA. The best way to check if that is the case to run ipconfig /all in command prompt. If adress starts at 169. search for break in line. If it is some manual configuration change it in TCP/IP in network connections properties. Have fun.

If it is a network drive. I believe it must have an IP address.

The best way to start troubleshotting is to know the ip address

Then you can ping the Ip address to know if your computer can see the drive.

If the ping time out...then the drive is not on the network.

If the ping reply then it is on the network. so you'll need to look at the share.

Can't Ping D-Link Di-704P

Hi, A couple of things you can try: 1. verify that your LAN cable from router to PC is good. There should be some indicator LEDs lighting up when connected/linked; 2. Co to Start, Control Panel, right click on your Local Area Connection, Properties, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click on Properties, tick Use the following IP address > IP address 192.168.0.254; Subnet mask 255.255.255.0; Default gateway 192.168.0.1, OK; 3. Check if you can ping 192.168.0.1; 4. If not, you may need to do a hard reset your router. Pls be reminded that all configurations on the router would be reset to default; 5. If the reset does not work, then perhaps the router would need replacement. Hope this be of some idea/help. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
