Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

IBM IntelliStation zPro came with different CPU chips through 1997 to 2006. Depending on which year or type your machine is will determine if you can upgrade to Windows8.

The chips used were

IntelliStation Z Pro

Type 6899 (March 1997 to ??)

Type 6865 (October 1998 to April 2000)
Type 6866 (January 2000 to March 2002)
Type 6894 (May 2001 to June 2002)
Type 6221 (November 2002 to February 2005)

Type 9228 (June 2006)

Windows 8 If you want to run Windows 8 on your PC, here's what it takes:
  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2 (more info)
  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
  • Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver
As you have Type 6223 which a Xeon faster than 1GHz it should work with Windows 8 but not all Xeon processors are compatible depending on which one you have. See this Microsoft site after you check your Xeon chip family on the motherboard or through the Windows system command. Search for xeon.

Problems with Intellistation 6223 Power Supply?

As this is the first time powering up, check the 115/230V switch on the back of the machine to ensure it is set properly. Then if you're ok going inside the PC follow each cable to it's connector and make sure all are connected firmly then try to start the pc again. If this doesn't work it's likely a dud.

These power supplies are cut to a funny shape so you do have to replace them via IBM. You can take it to any IBM service center or got to:

http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/content/home/store_IBMPublicUSA/en_US/parts/parts_main.html

check for part exchange discounts and then submit, on the next page it will ask for the IBM part # which will be on a sticker on the power supply. The part is fairly easy to swap out if you're at all handy with a screw driver. If you're not, call the 800 number on the above page and ask them for the closest service center.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris
