I have a Northstar GX series pressure washer with a Cat pump model 3SP30G1. Honda engine starts right up but no water from wand. Water source into unit seems sufficient still no water out. Any ideas?

leave the pump alone until you have cleaned out the jet at the end of the wand
if that is blocked the pressure valve will re-circle water making you think the pump is faulty
if the jet is clean , check the pressure regulator for correct operation
this is all on the assumption that you have water connected to the pump in the first place

Sounds like the trigger is not closing, best to strip it down and check operation. Probably siezed in the open position.

Trying to start a pressure washer with water supply on and gun trigger off will be a difficult task. It could be comparred to trying to start a lawn mower with the mower in tall grass. Place the mower on the drive or walkway and pulling the rope to start the engine is much easier. It is easy to start your pressure washer with no water in the system however there is a remote possibility that you could overheat the seals if you take too long to turn on the water. It is a little more difficult to start the washer with water supply on and someone holding the trigger to wand open. This will prevents pressure from building and making engine hard to start. You will not damage your washer if you start it with water supply off if you flood the pump and pressure hose with water first . Here is the procedure I use if i am working alone. I trun on the water to pump and open trigger to gun to allow water to flow into pump and pressure hose. Turn off water (leaving the water supply on will make it a little harder to pull starter). Start engine while holding trigger to gun open. When engine starts release gun causing unloader to activate circulating water in pump. Now turn on water and you are ready to work. If your system is under warranty however, I would advise to use the starting procedure outlined by mfg (hold open trigger to gun however). To get the longest life from unit try using it at say 75% of capacity or lower if your can and use max pressure on the tuffest jobs. Leaving your washer at full pressure for all jobs is like driving your car at 100 mph everywhere your go. Good luck.

Before you start up the pressure washer, hook up the garden hose, turn on the water, and wait for the water to come out the wand.(keep the triger depressed) If the water just mildly sprays out the nozzle then wait a few minutes for the air to bleed out of it. If the water just drips is has a weak stream then there is an obstruction either before the trigger or the nozzle. If you see water running out of the pump then your pump has damaged seals and/or cracked ceramic pistons. Pressure washers are great but need care. They can not be left out to freeze or it will damage unit. Also they can not be DRY STARTED. They must have water running through them, before start up or it will burn up the seals. Pump will power up, but when I attempt to use the wand the motor sounds like it is running on one leg & blows circuit breaker----Ser# 1575551-1101 5160 Model #1575551E

It is easy to check if your hose and quick connects are supplying enough water to the pump. Your pressure washer gallon per minuite requirements are printed on the machine and also on the pressure tips in GPM. Your post indicates 2.5 gpm but check your documentation of GPM. Next remove the tip from the wand and connect your hose with current quick connects to the machine. Start engine and direct the pressure wand into a bucket for exactly one minute. Measure the amount of water in the bucket, it should be very close to stated gallons. Do the same test with tip installed and compare measurement. If pump is starving for water you will not get proper amount of water in the bucket and the water hose will collapse. Two to four gallons of water per minute is not very demanding and should be delivered even with very small opening. You can even just direct the hose into the bucket for one minute and check how much water your hose is capable of delivering. I believe that you will find no problem with water delivery to pump. I would certainly enlighten Northern with your findings and question their evaluation. When you start using your pressure washer again try using it at lowest pressure to get the job done. Lowering the pressure to about 75% of max will increase the life of the pump and engine. Good luck with you pump
