Question about Dynex DX-LCD37 TV

1 Answer

I purchased a 22" Dynex with DVD. The actual picture is just 16" diagonal and 14" high. I have a black band around the screen 1.5" top and bottom and 2.5" on each side. Isn't there a way of making picture larger?

My Sharp flat screen has verticle lines running down the screen in various colors and every once in a while a picture with pop up but then fade away. The capacitors all look fine and i have no idea wh

the lines is the screen its self there is a board that the screen fits to over time it heats up and comes away from the screen and you get lines, you can sometimes push on the screen top to get them back but its only a temp fix you will need to take the screen out and remove the cover and put some shims in place on the screen. this is not a job for the faint hearted as it is a delicate job.

Dynex Flat Screen 22" w/DVD

When the picture goes out, try to open and access the TVs menu using the Dynex remote. if the menu fails to open up you can bet there is a problem with the backlight on the TV. Letting the TV rest and then it working again indicates heat as the source of the problem. Check to see if your still in your 1yr warranty or if you have a protection plan at best buy, the TV needs help.

If the Menu were to still open, you can blame your cable/satellite set top box.

Shutter speed too high...1/250 violates the max flash synch speed of most FF cameras....the shutter is not fully open at that speed when the exposure is made, and you are seeing one curtain at the black band.

The picture is crunched like if you were watching a letterbox movie.(with the black at the top an bottom of the screen how do i correct this

Black on top of bottom is widescreen.. Some dvd's are made in only widescreen. Usually you have to buy a full screen disc to cover the entire screen or change to format to 16:9 or 6:9 or whatever it handles/

You may see the black on top and bottom, it is annoying at first, but the picture is so much wider and you can actually see more on a widescreen

The bottom of the screen is black-as though there is a border along the bottom. I can't find a horrizontal adjustment anywhere.

It is a vertical issue, not horizontal.

Is the picture you have complete? Is there a black band along the top as well? If so, it may be because you are providing an HD aspect ratio of 16:9 instead of the TV native 4:3.

Try hooking up a VCR and watching a tape. Do you still have the black band on the bottom?

Wide screen lcd simple question.

Hi pooing stone,

You may sometimes find that even with a television referred to as “widescreen,” widescreen movies still have letterboxing.

This is likely because the movie you are playing is still in the ratio used at a theater. While most televisions are 4:3 for the more square-type or 16:9 for widescreen, a theater screen is much wider still. Unless the movie has been reformatted specifically to 16:9 for your television, you will either see letterboxing or lose portions of the picture by zooming in.

If a movie is available in several ratios, I suggest thinking of all the options before buying. Although purchasing a movie reformatted to 16:9 will prevent the black bars, purchasing it without any reformatting of the size will prevent you losing part of the picture.

FYI: It is very common with Blu-Ray Discs that widescreen means original size, not 16:9.

Thank you,

Widescreen

Unfortunately, a cinema screen is even wider than a widescreen TV. Because of this (in order to keep the original aspect ratio), even with a widescreen TV you still end up with the black bars top and bottom.

Check the aspect ratio of the DVD (Should be printed on the back of the case somewhere).

Unless it says 1.85:1 or 16:9 Anamorphic, you will get the black bars. (Many films on DVD are 2.35:1 or even wider!)

Have you got any different picture modes on your TV. I've got a Toshiba and it has something called 'cinema mode' which does eliminate the bars. Unfortunately it does it by zooming in on the picture slightly, so you loose a bit off the side of the picture and the image does get a little grainier.

Hope this helps.

High Definition Channels leave bar on top and bottom

More then likely it has to do with the aspect ratio of what you're trying to watch. Most DVD's are in widescreen format (2.40 to 1) like you would see in a theater but an HD tv is a 16 by 9 format or 1.85 to 1. Look at the DVD case and see. Also some HD shows are in widescreen so you'll get the same thing. You're only option to fill the screen is get movies in 1.85 to 1 or use your zoom functions however these do tend to distort the picture.
