Yes, I just bought a Dane-Elec USB 2-GB flash drive. I put it in my USB drive but when I try to save something to it, or even open it up, the computer tells me that no drive is inserted. This, even though when I plugged it in, it gave me a message of "new hardware" found.

I have a DANE-ELEC 2GB portable memory USB stick that I just got from TARGET to transfer files. I am using Windows 98SE and the stick did not come with a driver CD so I went on line to down load them. I downloaded then and ran setup which seam to install ok but when I plugged the stick into the USB port it could not find the inf driver file. I think the driver is V2.36R011 is what I am required to use but the program folder ( C:\PROGRAM FILES\DANE-ELEC USB DRIVER ) is empty and I searched my hard drive and there is no driver even though it said that was installed. Help HOFH.

How I got it to work in XP Pro:

1) Plugged USB Drive in and saw it saw hardware manager install it but didn't see new Drive Volume in My Computer

2) Opened Control Panel

3) Open System

4) Clicked Device Manager from Hardware Tab

5) Expanded Disk Drives

6) Right clicked USB Flash Memory USB Device and hit Properties

7) Clicked Volume Tab and hit the Populate Button. Voila!

Holy **** you've just saved my adapter. I was about to chuck it out the window.
I couldn't get it to stop freezing. It would start to populate the list but freeze when you tried to manipulate a file/folder.
I tried everything. You sir, have helped this top-end user out. I'm a nerd and tried every trick in the book and never thought of hitting populate.

The answer, I would consider in appropriate because it does nothing to help the person asking the question or that has the problem. An answer of , "You should just plug it into your usb drive.", does nothing to help or remedy the problem.

This is a Driver issue. Search for updated drives.

If that doesn't work you probably need to contact a disk recovery specialist such as DATA365. http://www.datastor.net.au

Dane-Elec 4G USB thumb drive is not found by win Xp or Vista. It is brand new out of the package. Any suggestions?? It seems like the driver is missing???

Try connecting it to a different computer.
If it still is not detected, then it is "DEFECTIVE".
Take it back to where you bought it, and get them to try it in one of their computers, and then to replace it.

Hi, my dane-elec showing write protected. How can I solve it? I tried http://www.fixya.com/support/t345484-format_write_protect_usb_drive file but did not work. Need help. Thanks, Zia

Click > Start > Run > type "CMD" Then
Type "CHKDSK" and type the letter of your SD drive and "/F".
chkdsk Q: /F > press Enter

another example:
chkdsk D: /f
chkdsk E: /f
D or E is the letter or your SD drive.

USB with plenty of capacity but apparently no availability

i just had this same problem. go to tools > folder options > view, and under hidden files and folders, click on show hidden files and folders. then click okay. then delete those hidden files, which were written overtime and stored onto the usb without your knowledge. the usb will have full memory space after you're done :)

Sure can, On the side without a lanyard hole, Pull the "Cap" from the rest of the drive, This exposes the USB end, to be inserted into the computer usb..
