I just recently purchased a new 160 gb Western Digital EIDE hard drive for my Dell XPS M140 and installed XP on it and everything was going fine until I tried connecting to the internet and my computer shows having no modem or the ports for it. What has happened?! Help, I feel lost without my laptop!

Re: Cannot Find My Modem
If your talking about a internal modem on your pc follow this: Right click My computer>properties>hardware>device manager>check now if you can see anything about a modem that is not installed properly, if that's the case you just need to reinstall the driver for it.

I dont think we can use a hard disk of 160gb in an inspiron 6000. and make sure you bought a ATA hard drive and not a SATA drive.
For the Western digital try to reinstall XP and install the device drivers before installing application s/w.
The virus could have scrambled and or removed your Windows operating files on your hard disk.
If you can get into your BIOS and it still detect your hard disk, then I suggest your delete your hard disk partition, create a new one and install Windows again including all your device drivers (video, audio, network etc.) and latest Windows service pack and your programs.
Run a check disc, or hard drive test in the bios, if any part of the test fails, then the hard drive is failing and will need replaced. Delete anything from the start up section of the start menu/programs, and download and run CCleaner form filehippo.com, it will help keep your computer clean and running fast/smoother. Also, are you using Norton? If so, remove it and use the AVG. You can find it at File Hippo as well.
