Question about Canon PowerShot S2 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

Will not record

Our camera has suddenly stopped recording....we have new batteries and the camera will go on, will retrieve previous shots, flash works and it sounds as if a photo is being taken but the screen remains dark. Lots of icons that I have tried to decipher in the manual but with no luck.

This first happened right after my husband downloaded the camera to the computer...something we have done many times before. Then we were fortunate enough to have our adult son there with us and he did "something"...even he's not sure...and it worked fine taking great pictures of the family event. Shut it off, picked it up again today and back to square one...just a black screen with icons...and yes, the camera lens cover is off.

Unfortunately our son lives 5 hours away so I'm hoping someone on this site can help. I keep thinking that maybe we just accidentally pressed one of the many buttons on the outside of the camera.. We have tried everything.

Thanks.

Kathy

Have you tried resetting to default values? With the camera turned on, press the Menu button for more than 5 seconds. When "Reset settings to default?" appears, arrow to OK and press the Set button.

This camera will unfortunately require service. There is nothing you will be able to do to fix it. You may call Canon and qualify for a deeply discounted upgrade to probably the S3 IS if you are interested.

Camera flashes two times, but will not record a picture

this sounds like a problem with the sd card either being corrupt and needing formating or being to large. if made in 07 or older it takes 512 mb sd card max if in 08 or newer it will take up to a one gig sd card.

Hi!
It's faulty CCD (imager). Ask Sony if they change them for free there.

No picture in record mode, only broad band of light

Your assessment of the problem is quite accurate. The image sensor (CCD) is kaput. Here's a link to this well-documented defect. http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html

Continuous mode

i think the frame rate is 1.3 frames per second.

Issue:
How do I set Continuous Shooting?
Solution: Setting Continuous Shooting mode PowerShot SD750 and SD1000.

Continuous Shooting In this mode, the camera shoots continuously while the shutter button is held down. Recording ceases when the shutter button is released. In addition, under the following conditions, continuous shooting can occur at a consistent interval until the SD card is full*.
  • A resolution and compression combination other than 145.gif and 129.gif is selected.
    * If continuous shooting suddenly stops, the SD card may be full.
Continuous shooting is available in all modes except 171.gif[AUTO], stitch_assist_icon.gif[Stitch Assist], coloraccentdropper.gif[Color Accent] and colorswapdropper.gif[Color Swap].
To set Continuous Shooting
  1. Press the cont_icon.gifbutton to display cont_icon.gif.

    cont_menu.gif
  2. Shoot the image.

The camera will continue to record successive images while the shutter button is fully pressed. Recording will cease when the shutter button is released, the card is full or the card does not support a write speed to allow continuous shooting to continue.
To Cancel Continuous Shooting
  1. Press the cont_icon.gif button twice to display single_icon.gif.
caution_a70.gifTo enhance the continuous shooting performance when you suspect the speed has dropped, you are recommended to format the SD card in the camera (Low Level Format) after you save all its images to your computer. note_icon_a70.gif
  • The interval between shots may lengthen slightly when the camera's built-in memory fills.
  • If the flash is firing, the interval between shots will lengthen to accommodate the flash's charging requirements.

Sony cyber shot

How do you know it is not your camera's display screen. Download pics to computer to verify. If you do not have a computer, take mem card to a retail photo Kiosk or counter; walmart, drugstores, etc.

If they are still white after reading card, and a pick file exists, then it is probably the Record Mode, pic taking mode, of the camera that is defective, of some setting out of whack.

Try removing the cam battery and reinstall after a 10 sec waiting time. This will reset the camera and put setting back to DEFAULT mfg settings.

Can't turn on my camera!

Hi..

I have a link and some information I found on the video option to your camera. This link is for the manual located on hp.com:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?product=371583&lang=en&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&

The following is how to stop video:
To stop recording video, press and release the Video
button again; otherwise, the video will continue recording
until the camera runs out of memory.

NOTE
If you have set the camera to Self-Timer or Self-Timer -
2 Shots (see Using the Self-Timer Settings on page 44),
the camera will start recording 10 seconds after you press
the Video button. However, with the Self-Timer - 2 Shots
setting, the camera only records one video clip.

After recording has stopped, the first frame of the video clip
appears on the Image Display. While it is processing, you can
delete the video clip by pressing the Menu/OK button

Good luck and please let me know if there is anything else i can hep you with--feedback would be geat.. thanks, d
