Re: TROJ_VUNDO.BMF virus downloaded from limewire
This is a reference to PC-Cillin / Trend Micro ("TM"). Are you running Trend Micro PC-Cillin on your computer. Are you using more than one anti-virus program? You should only use one as they will conflict with each other.
Try getting in through Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key while the pc is rebooting. Once in uninstall and reinstall your anti virus program.

Most laptops have what is known as a recovery partition on the hard drive. This partition has a mirrored image of the factory-installed original configuration. Check your users manual to see to how access this partition. If you can boot Windows, some manufacturers have set up the ability to do the recovery from the OS. If the OS is so badly messed up that your can't boot to it, there is usually a hotkey combination that you press at bootup to get to the recovery routine. You may also have received or made a set of recovery discs when you purchased the laptop. These can also be used to return the unit to factory fresh condition. If you have neither, you will need to use a Windows 7 Installation Disc. This will install the OS, but will in most cases, not have all the drivers you will need to activate all the installed peripherals such as network NIC, sound, bluetooth, etc. These drivers can be found and downloaded from the manufacturer website. You need to know the Model number of the unit and the OS you are trying to download drivers for.
The computer is supplied with a recovery partition in the hard drive. You can use the same to restore the computer back to factory settings. Please restart the computer and then press and hold F10 key to access the recovery partition. Once you access the same, please select "Restore C Drive" to perform a System Recovery.
As you have mentioned that the computer is infected by virus, there is a possibility that System Recover using the above method may not eradicate all the virus. In that situation a "Complete System Recovery" will be required. To perform a Complete System Recovery, you need the recovery discs. If you have created the recovery discs before, then you can use the same to perform a complete system recovery.
Else you can purchase the recovery discs from the below link:
a system restore will restore the system to a set point in time. this will not remove viruses.
a system recovery will reinstall windows to its original factory state by utilizing a recovery partition. this will remove viruses. however, it will also remove any data and software that has been installed on the system.
back up if needed but keep in mind that you could potentially be backing up viruses. especially if the user wants to back up music that was gotten from a peer to peer site such as limewire. this downloads are typically ripe with infections so do so at your own risk.
if the recovery discs wont work you may want to low level format (powermax) and try a fresh install.
only downside is u will need a copy of windows with the serial key
and u will lose all your data

Have you tried doing a system restore to a date prior to getting the virus. This often returns registry values to the original ones. If you do this and it works make sure you then delete all the old restore points so you don't accidently reinfect your computer. Unfortunately some virus's can prevent system restore from working.
Would appreciate feedback if this works for you. Thanks
yuppers...limewire is using some in house java script..hence it does not jive with sun java or even msoft..remove limewire..and java..and then re download java...limewire is infested with RIAA virus files..by the way
Try using Mozilla firefox, which loads straight to Google. If that works use that for internet. If it does work, try uninstalling windows Internet Explorer and reinstalling it. Also make sure you download all windows updates as this will fix most issues with IE!
I'm not sure where you were going with this, but I believe you can fix this yourself. Run a virus scan, then go into the virus vault in the anti virus software and empty the vault. If the virus did damage to the operating system, do a system restore. However if the operating system is damaged beyond repair or restore, you will need to do a system reload using either a recovery disc or an operating system disc. If you don't have these discs you can purchase a Windows operating disc at Walmart or Bestbuy.
