Question about Maytag Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have about a 20 year old Maytag washing machine. During a heavy load of towels, something happened that prevented it from draining....it just kept running through all the cycles. My wife found a belt on the floor under the washing machine. I tilted the machine up and there is still a belt that appears to be in place. I have no idea where this thiner belt may have come from or goes. Any ideas?

The belt isn't broken...is was just on the floor.
My Model is A882 Series 04.
Should I have only one belt on the pulley system at the bottom of my machine?

Where on the machine is the drain pump belt located?

    Got it...thanks!!!

The belt might be a bit - stretched. Can I ask you for the part number of that belt?

The illustration Jahn27 sent was very helpful. I was about to go out and buy a new washing machine today but now I don't have to! Thanks.

The machine has a separate belt for the drain pump and it must be the one broken disabling the draining function. Simply replace the pump belt to address the issue.

Please indicate the exact model number of the machine for the replacement belt part number. The are two belts on your machine; one for the drive pulley and one for the drain pump and they are both installed on the motor pulley at the front left bottom of the machine. Please refer to the illustration below.

The main drive belt is part number 211125 while the pump belt is part number 211124.

Hi,I have the first year model Neptune washer. So it's about twelve years old. It's not spinning out regular sized loads of laundry. And now I can smell a burning odor when the last load got done.

The first thing to do is to CHECK IN AND AROUND THE RUBBER DOOR BOOT (called a bellow) for small articles of clothing (like socks and underwear) that may have gotten lodged in behind the rubber. Pull the rubber back where it meets the wash tub and look behind it. It is common for small items to get stuck here, become forgotten and start to mildew. You should check this area after each wash and clean it periodically to get rid of the formation of soap scum, mold, and mildew. HINT: When you get ready to wash a load of towels, take a dirty towel and clean the door boot thoroughly (including the areas behind the rubber). Immediately place the towel in the wash and run it on a sanitary cycle. This way you eliminate the need for cleaning rags.

PERIODICALLY RUN THE WASHER ON A CLEANING CYCLE. Place the washer on the hottest setting you have (usually a Sanitary cycle) with nothing but bleach in the wash tub. Some newer models actually have a "Clean Cycle" available now just for this purpose. This helps keep the wash tub, drain lines and pump sanitized.

CHECK AND CLEAN THE DRAIN PUMP FILTER. Accumulations of debris in the drain pump filter can also cause odors. HINT: If you own a shop vac, pull the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum on the line. This will drain any residual water left in the tub, pump and drain lines BEFORE you remove the drain pump cover. This will prevent a messy clean up later.

LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN IF POSSIBLE. When not in use, leave the door open to allow the tub to air out and to keep mold and mildew from forming on the door bellow. I know this may not be desirable in some households with small children. If too much mildew forms on the rubber and it cannot be removed, replacement of the bellow may be required.

NOTE: This problem is common with front loader style washing machines. The doors on these machines have an air tight/water tight seal that is great for sealing the washer during the wash cycle, but can be terrible for collecting small garments and for not allowing the tub to properly air out when not in use. Following these simple preventive measures can go a long way towards preventing harmful mold and mildew, and towards extending the life of the door bellow and pump.

Hello - we have a top loading Maytag Performa washing machine that leaks water during the spin cycle when my wife is washing heavy items that she has placed on center spindal to avoid an unbalanced load....

Maytag Epic is leaking water from the bottom about 8 or 9 inches from the front door back on the right side. Is there and thing i can do. It only about 2 years old or less.

I have sitting water in bottom of outer ring after wash cycle.

The Neptune will typically have a bit of water in the front seal area after the cycle.
Take a towel and wipe the area clean and dry after heavy loads. There is a drain in the bottom. Wiping this area will help keep the drains clearer and help prevent ordors too.

Leak from maytag top load coin machine during spin drain cycle only

Possible that you would have a tub seal leak if it is only noticable during spin cycle. Possible that it "drips" slightly while in agitation, but not enough to notice it. While in spin mode you have a lot more parts moving as well as a lot more water pressure on the seal itself. Pump could also be leaking, but highly doubtful since it would leak a constant amount at all times. Good Luck!!! Jim
