Question about Toshiba Satellite M45-S169 Notebook
Similar problem with Toshiba laptop. Mom's machine died on her while checking e-mail. No discernible signs of life since then - not even the power indicator light when plugged in to AC adapter. Out of warranty & extended warranty, of course. Is there an internal power supply that could be the issue?
Based on your post if there should no indicator light if and when the AC adapter/charger is plug into the mains and into the power jack of the laptop, then it would be safe to assume that power is no being delivered into the internal circuitry of the laptop.
It is possible that the charger/adapter itself is defective. It could be checked with a voltmeter. You can try bringing it to any electronics shop or a friend with a DVM (voltmeter) to check for the presence of DC voltage at the plug.
Alternately, it can simply be just a fuse or a loose connection/ cold solder at the terminals/pins of the jack. There would be two soldered joints to the motherboard. Unfortunately, it would be more of a challenge to open the laptop than to repair. The repair would be simply reapplying heat (resolder) two terminals/pins of the power jack to the motherboard.
In some instances, it could be busted components like surface mounted fuses, regulators, diodes, capacitor or resistor. At other times, it could be heat related and simply a component got toasted. There were some cases of laptop overheating when used atop a bed, cushion, carpet and others becaue of restricted airflow/ventilation.
All of the above would call for familiarity with electronic components and circuitry, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY, then perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified repair professional.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
