it may be the thermal fuse kicking off as the magnetron heats up.
but if that was true then you could not restart it immediately.
but if it has to rest and then you can restart it then it is overheating
does the led panel stay lit and counting down the whole time or does it blink off.

take a look at this site as it may help you diagnose error.

Microwave shuts off after a few seconds. message says to check the manual. What's wrong?

The problem is the magnetron, or the inverter board, "if 7 years old or less" and possibily the keypad control board.

It sounds like you were sold somebody else's problem, it could be a bad magnetron, cracked high voltage diode, and a shorted high voltage capacitor to name a few. I recommend a professional if you feel it is worth getting checked.

Where is the second fuse in my panasonic nn-s963bf the one for the heating and what does it look like?

There is no second fuse. Look for a thermal cutoff there are a few of those. Test it for open circuit and replace.

My daughter put metal in oven it shut off. the oven turns buts shuts off after a few seconds. help

metal cannot absorb the microwaves, the microwaves bounce around inside the oven. Eventually they reflect back to the magnetron, which is the part that produces the microwaves. The magnetron can overheat and be damaged.

Inverter replaced , Failed gain

The magnetron may also be bad, or if there were any weak or inadequate solder joints on the board, that can cause some pretty spectacular failures.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

(continuity can be good even though it is bad!)
http://www.microtechfactoryservice.com/diode.html (if it is NOT shorted, it\'s probably fine)

Good luck.
