To do a clean install, you will first need to back up your data onto CD/DVD to prevent loss. Second, remove all external devices (printers, scanners, digital camera) to facilitate the reinstall process. Third, add drivers and downloads if needed to improve performance. Follow these steps below to do a clean install:

  1. Install the Windows XP disc.

  2. Press and hold ++ at the same time to restart the computer.

  3. When the computer restarts and the Dell splash screen appears, press .

  4. In the Boot menu, use the and arrows to select either CD or DVD, and then press to continue.

  5. If prompted, press any key to continue. If you do not press a key, the computer starts from the hard drive. In that case, wait until Windows has completed started up, and then begin again.

  6. At the Windows XP setup window, select To set up Windows XP now, press Enter, and then press .

  7. Press to accept the terms and conditions specified in the license agreement.
  8. In the Windows Setup Partition screen, press to partition the hard drive. On this screen, review the listed partitions. Usually, the original operating system partition is labeled (OS) and is also the largest partition.

  9. Use the and arrows on your keyboard to highlight the OS partition and press to delete the partition.

  10. When the Confirmation screen appears, review the warnings and press to continue. You will now be returned to the previous screen.

  11. Use the and arrows to highlight the unpartitioned space and press to set up Windows XP. The Windows XP Setup appears with the following information highlighted: Format the partition using the NTFS system.

  12. Press to continue. On the next screen, a progress bar shows the format process. When the format is complete, the setup files are copied to the hard drive.
The following message appears: Please wait while setup copies files to the Windows installation folders. This might take several minutes.
Then follows Setup is copying files…. The status bar displays the percentage complete. When complete, the computer reboots and the set up wizard appears.

  13. When the Regional and Language Options window appears, change as needed, then click Next.

  14. When the Personalize Your Software window appears, enter a name and organization if wanted, then click Next.

  15. When the Product Key window appears, enter the product key, then click Next.

  16. When the Computer Name and Administrator Password window appears, enter a password if wanted, then click Next.

When you enter the password, be sure the caps lock is off; passwords are case sensitive. When the Date and Time Setting window appears, change as needed, then click Next. Windows is installed, a progress bar indicates approximately how much of the task is complete. The computer reboots. The Windows XP operating system is now fully installed

I do not have the username and password for my new Dell latitude 2120

There are 3 ways for you to reset Dell Latitude password. Let's specify them in 3 parts.

Part 1: Using a Password Reset Disk

When you create Windows user accounts for your Dell Latitude, you can also create a password reset disk at the same time with a USB flash drive or a floppy disk to reset forgotten password afterwards, which means you have to make this tool before you forgot Dell Latitude password. Meanwhile, this password reset disk can reset only local user account password. If you want to unlock dell latitude without password or disk, or your Dell Latitude is on a domain, please refer to Part 3.

Part 2: Reinstalling Windows System

If you have no password reset disk, Dell Latitude will suggest you to reinstall Windows system when you forgot password. However, the cost of reinstallation is huge because all your settings and data in C drive will be lost. If you don't want to lose resources on your Dell Latitude laptop, try the following method.

Part 3: Using Dell Latitude Password Reset (Reset Password without Disk)

If you want to unlock Dell Latitude (d620) without password or disk, Windows Password Recovery (Windows Password Recovery Tool) will be your best choice to access Windows 8.1/8/7/Vista/XP adminitrator in dell . It is specially designed to reset any local or domain account password without system reinstallation when you forgot password and can't log into Windows OS on Dell Latitude laptop. Here is the example of Dell Latitude admin (administrator) password reset. What you need is just a USB flash drive or a blank CD/DVD and an available computer.
Note: The steps to reset other user account password (no matter whether it is a local or a domain one) are the same.
  • Step 1: Download and install Dell Latitude Password Reset on the available computer.
  • Step 2: Insert a USB flash drive or a blank CD/DVD on the computer, specify the burning device, and click "Burn".
  • Step 3: Click "Yes" and "OK" button in the pop-up windows.
  • Step 4: Insert the newly created USB flash drive or CD/DVD on your Dell Latitude and reboot it. Select the Windows installation you want to reset the password, choose "Reset your password" and click "Next".
  • Step 5: Select the administrator account, choose "Remove the password" and click "Next". In the pop-up window, click "Reboot".

I have a dell inspiron code 21m6kk1 and i forgot the opening password how do i open it

Jimmy blash,
If it is a system password that your computer needs you will either have to format and reinstall Windows or search the internet for software that will help you recover your password. Dell does not have any generic passwords to help you get back into Windows. If it is a bios password that you forgot you will need to contact Dell Support at 1-800-624-9896bsat4ube4gblqiaaaaasuvork5cyii= and have them help you reset your bios password.

Dell does not have any Admin passwords to help you get into your system. You would need to purchase some software online to recover passwords are format and reinstall Windows. I have included a link to help you manually reinstall Windows below.

My Dell All in One 924 wont print stating "commuincation not available". Cable is connected both ends. I reinstalled the printer and restarted the laptop. scanner on it works as does copy function. OS...

My first thought is to check the Dell website to see if there's a driver update for you OS and Printer.

If there's no help there, Get on to Dell technical support, They'll take you through a couple of procedures, if unsuccessful should replace it.

Normal 0 Normal 0 Did you install the software with the camera connected to the computer? Disconnect the camera from the USB port and reinstall the software. When the program asks you to connect the camera, do so, and it should work. Hope this is of some help. Bud
