My HP c6180 All in One printer just keeps running through a cycle saying it was not shut down properly and will not start again. I pulled the plug to reboot and still have the same problem.

My C6180 had the same problem. Apparently some defective components were used in the construction of the logic board (see photo). On my C6180 there were 3 failed capacitors (the green cylinders - the puffed top indicates failure) and a 4th from the same manufacturer (TEAPO - many unfavorable web references to this manufacturer). I purchased 3x 330uF 16V and 1x 680uF 10v rated to 105 degrees Celsius (total about 60cents). On the logic board, the capacitors I replaced are labeled C613, C614, C660 and C662. If you are not comfortable replacing the parts yourself (or don't have a soldering tool), you will have to find someone who will. The time to repair should be less than 30 min - I did it in 25 min with only a solder pen. This fixed the on and off problem and also fixed the ink system failures the printer was having. A similar fix may apply to other printers . My HP c6180 All in - acca299.jpg

This info has been so helpful along with this group of pictures:http://picasaweb.google.com/109215435720... The pictures show how to get to the logic board. Thank you for helping me fix my printer instead of turning it into a boat anchor!

@msat538,
I believe your printer problems are unrelated to your browser update. You likely have a few failed capacitors on your printer's logic board. I have a HP C6180 all in one printer that started displaying an ink system failure message. Eventually it powered off then on by iteslf every 15 seconds or so, making the printer unusable. Take the logic board cover off (on the C6180 is is on the right end of the printer), remove the logic board and look for failed capacitors (they will be puffed on the top (see image). If this is the case, you will have to have them replaced (easily done with a soldering pen). The replacement parts are inexpensive (less than $1.00) I hope this helps.

I first got a message saying "improper shutdown. Use only the on key not wall switch to shut down printer." When I tried to shut down the printer it would not work. I had to pull out the plug.

take out the power cable and do the power drain by holding the power key for 1 min and releasing the accumalated power. replug the pwr cable to the printer. it should work fine.

Photosmart C6180 All in one printer will not start although live

Strange because I have the same issue, and I've had this printer for over 3 years but the problem just started about a month ago.
I reset the printer by: 1) Unplug power to the printer 2) Hold #6 on the keyboard 3) Plug power cord back in while holding #6 Eventually (10 seconds?) the printer will shut down. Once it does, release #6 and power up the printer again.
Warning: This reset all the configuration settings.
This works for me, but there is still an issue because I have to repeat this every time I turn off/on the printer.

My Hp c6180 printer has error masage " Improper shut down"

I had the same problem. Try shutting it down by holding the off button and unplugging it for a few seconds from the back of the printer. Wait a couple of minutes and them plug it back in. Make sure you are connect to a wall outlet and not a power strip or surge protector.

If this doesn't work, hold down the #6 key while cord back from the printer.

Hopefully one of these two would work.

If it doesn't you can go to the HP site and start a chat with a tech who will walk you through a solution.

I had the same problem, and got resolved.

HP C6180 Incessant Switching On and Off

The best way to deal with this issue is making sure that the printer isn't plugged to a surge protector
and performing a partial reset
you can achieve this by unplugging the power cable and pressing # and 3 and then replugging the cable and hold the # and 3 buttons until you see the lcd lit up
also try the # and 6 and then # and 9 to reset it to factory defaults if the previous doesnt work

Same problem, hp c6150 turns on and shuts down in infinite loop.

In visiting with HP Support Personnel, this issue is most likely caused by a faulty power source. I have the same issue with our C6150 and they recommended that I look at replacing power cable. I am currently trying to find a new power cable.

HP C6150 Printer that turns off then back on repeatedly

Please DON'T keep posting messages that say "I had the same problem..." Those are useless!

If the software resets don't work, it's possible it's an electronics problem. Here is a repair note that worked for me:
