Thanks, not the power cord, it is compatible with another Panasonic unit and powers it up just fine. So where do I find a tech to test the PSU?

If you are comfortable with dismantling the unit then its always worth checking to see that spiders etc have not gotten in there and cloggd up any mechanism and giving it a clean out with compressed air like you would use to clean computers etc.

It is also worth checking the power supply area too to make sure that any fuses are OK and that the borads have not been corroded by something.

Its a good place to start and you have nothing to loose and everything to gain. and if you do find anything not quite right in there then the choice is to take it to a pro or replace it depending on what you find.

Quick question, can you check to see if the cord is soldered to the unit or not??

The unit sounds like the power supply could be damaged in which case it would have to be opened and replaced (may be more expensive than obtaining a new one) but we can check the cord first to see if its damaged.

Hi.

If there is no power at all, then problem is either power cord or PSU inside the recorder. Check if the power plug is fused (eg. in UK), in that case replace fuse. If that does not work, then the unit must be disassembled, and the PSU must be tested by a technician.

Pan. dmr-e85h turned itself on, self-check

Open case and look for failed capacitors, which are cylindrical and will have a bulging top and a yellow/gold substance leaking out. If this is the problem, search for previous solutions that mention "solder capacitor C1260" for the DMR-E85. I had a similar 'no power' problem with my DMR-E55 and my son and I were able to fix it Sunday. Not hard to do and mine is working again!

Try replacing bad capacitors on the power supplycard. See http://vassfamily.net/projects/DMRE85H/dmre85h.html

Good luck.

Alsofor those interested, I found the "commands" listed onhttp://www.dxcc.com/dmr-e85h.htm useful when operating the DMR-e85h tocorrect problems.

DMR-E85H works fine after replacing IC but ......

Quite many possibilities. Since you replaced the IC, I'd figure you have a little understanding of electronics and ESD procedures. You now need to troubleshoot the driver for the display. Do a little research with your DVM... make sure the display is getting V. Should the unit be a uP type system, you are probably looking at the uP display driver circuitry [all in one] being bad and no way around the replacement should you desire a display. Should the unit be slightly older, you may get lucky with finding a cap or transistor problem for the driver. Moreso trans than cap.

Wish it were here.. always easier to take a peak and find the problem when it is in front of me.
