Start up in safe mode by pushing the f8 key on startup this will give you networking capabilities then follow these instructions

Hijackthis is a first line tool to examine certain areas of the computer. It does not show everything and lots of malware is hidden from it

To download Hijackthis

go to http://www.merijn.org/programs.php and download 'Hijack This!' self installer. Save it to the desktop or other suitable place. DO NOT just press run from the website Double click on the file and it will install to C:\program files\hijackthis and create an entry in the start menu.
Click on the entry in start menu to run HijackThis
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.
feel free to e-mail me

Don't have a an icon

Please give more details as to what is happening and when it happens?

If you are saying your computer boots up but there are No Icons on the desktop, then a virus or infection has hidden them or changed some settings.

Click the Ctrl/Alt/Del keys to start the Task Manager. Press and Hold the Ctrl and Alt keys then hit the Del key. When the task manager opens up click the Processes tab. Under the processes tab click the columnar heading Image Name to sort the items running in alphabetical order. Look to see if you see explorer.exe running under the image name. If you do click it one time to highlight it then click the END PROCESS button at the bottom right of the Task Manager Window.

Next click FILE at the very top left corner of the Task Manager Window and select New Task (Run..). When the Create New Task window pops up type in: explorer.exe and press OK. Your desktop icons and start menu should start populating.

Desktop apears but with no icons, no start, or menu bar?

Are you running Windows? If you are, the easiest way to fix this problem is to simultaneously hit Ctrl, Shift, Esc. The Task Manager will then pop up. Click "File" > "New Task (Run...)." When the run dialog appears, type "explorer" and then hit Enter. This will force the explorer to launch My Documents (the default folder explorer launches), which, in turn, forces your desktop and taskbar to load.

Power adapter problem

Your problem seems to be the Vistas Power management software. Try this.

1Click on Start.
2.Right click on My computer.
3. Then click on manage.
4.In the pop up that opens, click on device manager.

Now on the right hand side probably the first thing listed may be your Battery.

5. Expand (Double click) it.

Look for Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery

6. Right click it.
7. click properties.
8. Click driver tab.

Here your options split into 3.
You can either Roll back the driver or upgrade the driver or uninstall and re-install the driver.

I suggest you first ry the roll back option.

If it does not work
Click uninstall.

once it is uninstalled, close that box and click action in the device manager (It is just right to the file.
click on Scan for hardware changes.

Follow screen instruction to install the driver you uninstalled.

Reboot.

Icons and start upmenu bar absent

explorer.exe is what displays the icons and the startup bar on the screen so try opening explorer.exe from the task manager. Or if it is already running close it and then reopen it.

No icons..nothing!?!

Try resetting the desktop. Right click on the desktop, click properties, then open the desktop tab. Change the desktop picture and see if that works. If it doesn't try a system restore. You will be able to access the start menu by pressing the windows key. If these don't work you'll need to run a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc.

SONY PCG-V505DX make it run faster

put more ram in the laptop is the most economical solution at the moment, as it is so cheap.
your laptop can have 2 gig in total
other solutions that cost nothing
  • remove all unwanted software off the hard drive.( to make room for virtual memory)
  • empty recycle bin
  • run anti spy-ware software
  • defrag the hard drive
  • set virtual memory to 2 times physical ram
  • set performance settings to "adjust for best performance",go to device manager/advanced tab to do this
  • go to start/run ,type "msconfig" go to start up tab and deselect any software not needed at boot up,
  • leave anti virus, anti spy ware, and any firewall selected.
  • when you reboot a box will open saying you have been in making changes ,put a tick in the box at top right so it does not show again.

hope this helps you
please rate my efforts if worthy
good luck
Terry

Software loading, running and not found

What kind of software is it? If you go to the Task Manager (Control + ALT + DEL) you should see the process running there. End task and then try to run it again.
