Internal antenna Internal antenn in my 3600 stopped acquiring sats. is there a way to repair or replace it? Garmin web site does not do repairs for these units anymore. Thanks Alex

When I flip up the antenna, mine can be observed on the Acquiring Satellites screen trying to access satellites. Normally a solid bar pops up indicating contact with a particular satellite. When 3 of them pop up, then a position is determined. But on mine none of the bars pop up and eventually a window opens asking if I am indoors. So it is going through the usual motions but doesn't seem to detect any of the satellites.

    Any suggestions?

My IQue 3600 also does the exact same thing.... The unit turns on fine, but when the built-in antenna is flipped up or the external add-on antenna is connected, the screen starts flashing and the system keeps rebooting over and over again... No amount of hard-reset or cajoleing corrects the situation. Any assist in getting it fixed would be appreciated. What a waste of money if Garmin just abandons it.

My zumo 550 won't acquire satellites I tried update, no result Battery does not work

Hello,

The internal rechargeable battery in most electronic only has a life expectancy of about 3-4 years so it is common for then to die over time. It may be the same scenario with your GPS's antenna. You may be able to find a replacement battery for your GPS at a local battery outlet. But otherwise it may have to be sent in for warranty or repair.

Hope this helps!

I have a Garmin 3600. When I want to use the GPS feature, and I open the antenna, all I get is Acquiring Satellites, but nothing happens (the little indicatior on the bottom shows activity). I thinkthere...

If you can obtain an external antenna from another IQ3600 user it
will plug into the connecter on the top of the unit and bypass the fold out antenna. I had to buy one because the windshield in my Pont Montanna would block the satalite signals. When I plug in the external antenna I do not have to fold out the antenna on the unit.
That will check to see if the unit is recieving and /or if the fold out
wire is broken. The external antenna is not Garmin specific but the
plug on the end is so another gps antenna with the same end plug works.

Can't find satellites

The internal antenna BNC connection (the little steel bayonet that the secures the antenna or extender cable) is a common failure on these units. The threaded retaining ring on the outside of the antenna BNC comes loose when installing/removing the antenna connection, and eventually the BNC rotates and the solder joint inside fails. This happened on mine recently, if you are handy fixing small mechanical parts and a good solderer it is pretty  easy to fix. Remove the batteries, remove all six outer case screws (but not the one with the oval metal plate) and gently pull the housing apart. Check the solder connection of the coax wire to the BNC pin & shield. If it's broken and the BNC is loose in the GPS case, tighten the outer BNC retaining ring VERY tight, add a drop of thin super glue (Hot Stuff or Permabond CyA, etc) to keep the ring/BNC/case mated, then repair the coax solder  connection. Replace all the screws and test it outside. If it's an aviation GPS you would of course have this done by an FAA licensed avionics specialist. Wink wink.

It sounds like the micro switch for the antenna has busted and it now thinks the antenna is up always. It will have to be professionally repaired.

Having problems acquiring satellites

I experienced the same problem about acquiring satellite signal even when it's a clear sunny day. After 30 mintues, it was still searching! The unit appeared to have "stuck" in this acquiring mode. The following worked for me: 1) open the GPS antenna 2) press the bottom left screen while holding the power button to turn the unit on 3) enter maintenace mode 4) select diagnostics 5) clear error report, do NOT clear any user data 6) restart unit the usual way My GPS 350 was able to acquire satellite signal in less than 1 minute after the above steps were taken.

GPS receiver problem

Does it work with an external antenna hooked up? If it does, it could be a problem with the flip-up internal antenna.
