I bought my nuvi at a garage sale, it was unlocked then, now my kids were playing with it and some how its locked. It didn't come with any software or manual or anything. Not too sure what to do now, please help!

then take the file that i send you and save it to the desktop
hook up your garmin to the computer
and open the start thing
find computer then open it...
find garmin
then open the other garmin folder inside it
drag the file that you saved on your desktop to the garmin folder
close it
then unplug the unit....
and presto you are finished....
I hit a button on my GPS Garmin Nuvi 200 and now I cant unlock it. If I installed a code I cant rememebr what it is Ive had the unit about 3 years now.
Here's the deal - while some of these posts are legitimate, some may actually be people who obtained stolen units that are locked. The only way to get these unlocked is to actually SEND the unit to Garmin and they will confirm that you are the rightful owner and then unlock the unit. If you cannot prove rightful ownership, then you are in possession of a nice paperweight. As it should be. :)
Send your unit to Garmin. Chances are if you got it a "garage" sale and its locked it's because whoever actually owned it put in a PIN so when it got stolen, whoever ended up with it (you) would get to enjoy their stolen property. Do the real owners a favor and look it up on stolen911.com and check the stolen GPS database there. Then return it to its rightful owner.
Sometimes people do get rid of Garmin's, a passed on relative or upgrade replacement. Be sweet, that was kinda judgmental and a mean accusation to a buyer of a used Garmin. I know of 3 people who have had their cars broken into with the sole purpose of getting their GPS systems. Locations & why don't mattter: but I have to ask you geniuses who know how to unlock these systems, should u have your house broken into & ur stuff sold around the country with the help of others who will facilitate unlock codes for your secured gadgets? If u want to cap the crime, don't participate. Send your GPS to Garmin (e.g. write off as tax expense, etc). On the other hand get ur services at the 'corner' as u wish.

you must return yo with-in 50 meters of the SECURITY LOCATION you first unlocked your gps...( most are at your home or office location )
once there your unit will unlock for you automatically, at this point reset your pin number or disable it ... to do that go to Tools.....Settings.....Security
other than that you would have to send it back to Garmin with the sales receipt .. All Garmin GPS are registered with garmin be4 they can download maps with the owners name and address
Give it back to the owner. Owners don't forget PIN and even if the PIN s changed, they also know
the secret location where the unit will unlock itself without the PIN.
if you bought a locked satnav without a code you are either very stupid or handling stolen goods. And dont give the **** that you didnt realise or didnt check. No-one in their right minds buys a satnav without seeing it working.
If you still claim its legit then send it off to Garmin and they offer an unlocking service
You are out of luck. Garmin will only talk to and assist registered owners. The registered owner has to deregister the device before a new owner register it and update the maps.
You need to call garmin to have them help you unlock your unit. It sometimes requires the 25 digit unlock code which they have on hand. 1-800-800-1020 I believe.
I've been trawling for unanswered questions; this information may
be too late for you (or perhaps it may help you resurrect a useless machine which
you have put away) but it will certainly help others searching for advice with the
same problem.
You have Garmin Lock activated on your nuvi: there are only two ways you can unlock it. There is no hack, crack, bypass or any other reset option.
1. Enter the PIN code (but you clearly don't have it or you wouldn't be reading this).
2.
Take the unit to the Security Location you chose when activating Garmin
Lock: it will then unlock without the PIN code and you can then either
reset the PIN or disable Garmin Lock. The Security Location should not
be the owner's home address, but many owners ignore this recommendation.
Many owners choose their workplace or a close friend or relatives
address for this purpose.
If neither option works then your unit
is useless unless you send it to Garmin with proof of purchase. Garmin
charge for the service and if your maps are not up to date then it's
really a waste of money as the investment would be better spent on a new
unit with current mapping.
I hope that you manage to either fix
your problem using my advice or at least can decide whether to abandon
the unit and buy another.
Unfortunately, even if you perform master reset on Garmin GPS unit, it does not reset Garmin Lock security feature, which password-protect most Garmin electronic devices to deter theft. If you forget the PIN or password unlock code to unlock the Garmin unit, the best solution is to bring it to Garmin to get unlocked. “Secure Location” does not unlock a locked Garmin unit either as it’s only a temporary fix as when it’s turn on outside the security location, the device is locked again."
So unfortunately, there is only one option: You have to send your nüvi into the Garmin, who can unlock it. Remember original receipt.
