Question about Creative Labs Zen Digital Media Player
My creative Zen won't turn on, or respond with my USB cable either.
Can you be of any assistance?
I had exactly the same problem as Damma32.
This solved the problem:
I plugged the ZEN out from the PC and pressed the reset-button, then pressed the play-button while turning it on again. when the creative logo appeared on the screen I released the play-button and a recovery-meny appeared. I used the clean-mode, which fixed the problem.

The same thing happened to me. I tried everything known to man except something that is now very "duh" when I think about it (and the "duh" is directed towards me, not to anyone else). I always used my player in the morning at the gym, then in my car on the way to work. Once at work, I plugged into the usb port on my laptop and let it charge all day. No problems. Then I would listen to it on my way home from work in the car, and then tuck it into the glove box for the next morning at the gym. I did this 5 days a week for about 7 months. Then, I took a week off work. When I would get home from the gym, I never thought about plugging it into my lapto nor did I charge it up on my home pc. I just left it in the car. So, needless to say it died. And so, since February I have been fussing with it because it won't charge. I even bought a wall charger, to no avail. And then last week, out of frustration, I emailed Creative because I tried everything suggested and even things that were not suggested. And I got their stock reply. Plug it in, leave it for 6 hours, call us in the morning. Nothing, nada. Then I re-read their reply and finally noticed what I had been missing. Plug it into the BACK of your Desktop PC. Not the front port, not the ports on your laptop. The BACK of your desktop PC. Huh. So I tried it. And viola! Instant recognition from the player and the computer and (after 6 hours) now I am happily not listening to the radio in my car or using my old dell dj ditty at the gym. I still charge it on my laptop during the day. But at night, when I get home, I now remove it from the car and plug it into my wall charger. Basically, what I learned is that laptop usb ports and the front port of desktop pcs have very weak power capabilities. And that I need to read instructions a little better.

I had solved my problem by the time Maush posted, but I want to say that I did this as a last resort and it did indeed work! I took my blackberry charger which fits my Zen player and plugged in my Zen overnight (any similar phone charger will work). I got no response from the player at this time, but the little blue light remained on but no other response from the player. I knew it would charge it since I had tried to charge it this way before the player went blank and it had showed the charging icon on the player. I wanted to make sure it was charging since it didn't show it was charging on my laptop and the USB didn't recognized it at all. In the morning I unplugged the player which still showed blank and unresponsive, and with a needle I pushed the RESET button on the player and it worked. I had prepared myself to lose all my data, but instead it turned on like normal. I didn't lose any data and it showed a full charge. I hope I don't have this problem again, but if I do, I assume this method will work again. It was unresponsive for three days before we resorted to the RESET button. I have a Zen 8 gig. Thanks to Maush for posting his/her fix.

Stupid question folks:
If I didn't charge it properly at first (used a laptop) then might this be why it's not holding a charge from my wall plug charger? I am leaving it plugged into my PC tonight - should that straighten things out? It was running out of charge after one day's play.

This is amazing.
I've been fretting because I have to endure a drive from the UK to Paris next week; and my Zen had frozen. I couldn't do anything, and my brother's had the same issue (Zen v+). Thank you so much. I plugged it into the back of the computer and IT WORKED!

Do not charge it with your PC. I have a Zen 32 and it conked out on me. I plugged it with my phone charger and it came back to life.

For about 1 week my Zen would freeze once I would push the play/pause, forward, back, or the select button. I felt like throwing it against the wall and regretted buying it. Then I found this website, did what Maush suggested. Once the recovery menu appeard I went to reboot and wa-la!! It works again!!
