    HELP MEEEEE

  • Anonymous May 24, 2008

    This is ****

  • MissTeee May 24, 2008

16gb Creative Zen arrived yesdy from amazon. Turned on briefly on receipt to check ok and then shut it down again but unit now completely dead. Despite having hooked it up to usb hub on pc to charge - no blue charging light, no battery signal, windows says there is a malfunction with the device attached and lists it as 'unknown device', though I have installed the software first as instructed. Old Mp3 - microphoto functions immediately under same circs. Perhaps I am panicking too soon and will charge but just now all the new zen is doing is becoming warm to the touch. Feeling suspicious...Any help would be great, thanks, Miss T.

My blue light is on when hooked up to the USB on my laptop but the Zen is unresponsive. It doesnt' say it's charging and the screen is black. When I unplug it it remains black and unresponsive, with the blue light still on. My husband plugged it in to charge and then put my laptop on hibernate. Basically, nothing after that. The USB connection says there are no drivers for the unknown device. I have had no problems till now. Had it for 3 weeks. Creative Zen 8 gig.

I just received the Zen, charged it, and downloaded music files from multiple poorly organized sources. Sometimes immediately, sometimes after a song or two it freezes and I have to reset it. I wonder if it is because it finds more than one music file with the same name. Anyway, unless I can find a way soon to keep it operating I'll be sending it back.

my zen ran dead a while back and i went to turn it on after a few minutes of charging, but instead the screen went blank and now i have to reset it after a period of time to even get the blue light to flash when charging. after about twenty minutes of charging it stops flashing and i try to turn it on. is there any way you can help me reconnect to my music?

I had exactly the same problem as Damma32.

This solved the problem:
I plugged the ZEN out from the PC and pressed the reset-button, then pressed the play-button while turning it on again. when the creative logo appeared on the screen I released the play-button and a recovery-meny appeared. I used the clean-mode, which fixed the problem.

The same thing happened to me. I tried everything known to man except something that is now very "duh" when I think about it (and the "duh" is directed towards me, not to anyone else). I always used my player in the morning at the gym, then in my car on the way to work. Once at work, I plugged into the usb port on my laptop and let it charge all day. No problems. Then I would listen to it on my way home from work in the car, and then tuck it into the glove box for the next morning at the gym. I did this 5 days a week for about 7 months. Then, I took a week off work. When I would get home from the gym, I never thought about plugging it into my lapto nor did I charge it up on my home pc. I just left it in the car. So, needless to say it died. And so, since February I have been fussing with it because it won't charge. I even bought a wall charger, to no avail. And then last week, out of frustration, I emailed Creative because I tried everything suggested and even things that were not suggested. And I got their stock reply. Plug it in, leave it for 6 hours, call us in the morning. Nothing, nada. Then I re-read their reply and finally noticed what I had been missing. Plug it into the BACK of your Desktop PC. Not the front port, not the ports on your laptop. The BACK of your desktop PC. Huh. So I tried it. And viola! Instant recognition from the player and the computer and (after 6 hours) now I am happily not listening to the radio in my car or using my old dell dj ditty at the gym. I still charge it on my laptop during the day. But at night, when I get home, I now remove it from the car and plug it into my wall charger. Basically, what I learned is that laptop usb ports and the front port of desktop pcs have very weak power capabilities. And that I need to read instructions a little better.

I had solved my problem by the time Maush posted, but I want to say that I did this as a last resort and it did indeed work! I took my blackberry charger which fits my Zen player and plugged in my Zen overnight (any similar phone charger will work). I got no response from the player at this time, but the little blue light remained on but no other response from the player. I knew it would charge it since I had tried to charge it this way before the player went blank and it had showed the charging icon on the player. I wanted to make sure it was charging since it didn't show it was charging on my laptop and the USB didn't recognized it at all. In the morning I unplugged the player which still showed blank and unresponsive, and with a needle I pushed the RESET button on the player and it worked. I had prepared myself to lose all my data, but instead it turned on like normal. I didn't lose any data and it showed a full charge. I hope I don't have this problem again, but if I do, I assume this method will work again. It was unresponsive for three days before we resorted to the RESET button. I have a Zen 8 gig. Thanks to Maush for posting his/her fix.

In response to MissTeee and as a follow up to Flash74, I had the same exact problem as MissTeee and returned the first Zen I bought to the store. I then had problems as posted with my second Zen after 3 weeks of use. It seems that battery power is the root of all problems. When I got the first Zen it turned on just fine, we followed the install and set up, but were unable to finish setup because the Zen just died. It was totally unresponsive and we had charged it on the laptop USB but not for the full 6 hours. We assume the Zen was defective and returned it. When I got to the store, the technician plugged it in to these huge PC's they do systems checks on for returned merchandize, and sure enough, the Zen turned on at the store and started charging. It had been completely unresponsive at my house for two days, but I was charging on the laptop USB. I thought for sure that Zen was a lemon, but in retrospect, having to charge it on a PC back-USB port may be solution and cause of the problem. I now charge my new Zen on my Blackberry phone charger and have no problems. I don't let it get to red on the battery power either just to be safe. Hope this helps.

Stupid question folks:

If I didn't charge it properly at first (used a laptop) then might this be why it's not holding a charge from my wall plug charger? I am leaving it plugged into my PC tonight - should that straighten things out? It was running out of charge after one day's play.

This is amazing.
I've been fretting because I have to endure a drive from the UK to Paris next week; and my Zen had frozen. I couldn't do anything, and my brother's had the same issue (Zen v+). Thank you so much. I plugged it into the back of the computer and IT WORKED!

Do not charge it with your PC. I have a Zen 32 and it conked out on me. I plugged it with my phone charger and it came back to life.

For about 1 week my Zen would freeze once I would push the play/pause, forward, back, or the select button. I felt like throwing it against the wall and regretted buying it. Then I found this website, did what Maush suggested. Once the recovery menu appeard I went to reboot and wa-la!! It works again!!

I got water in my creative zen and it won't turn on. Is there any way of fixing this?

Probably not.
Remove the battery and place the player in a warm sunny dry place for several days until it drys out completely. Replace the battery, charge it and the see if will work.

Creative zen micro won't read my music

MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet toyour computer and then copy them to your MP3 player using the USB cable. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs tomp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and thencopy them to your MP3 player after you have connected the USB cable tothe MP3 player and the computer.
You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player willcreate a MP3 music file for each music track.Click on this link for instruction on converting musicfiles to mp3 file format :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r5798418-creating_transferring_mp3_music_files

Zen problems

it may be in a low power state, try a different usb cable and hook it up to a desktop computer (laptop ports are sometimes not powerful enough to charge the battery when it is in a low-power state). I had this exact same problem and that fixed it!

If your Zen V is dead, wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause."
