Hi!
The answer to your question is that "There is no Windows XP drives for that system and it no longer supported by Plustek".
Since this machine is an obsolete model, either you have to replace it or you have to try Windows 2000 pro drivers if you want to take a risk. Again, you will not be able to receive Full functionality as well.
This is the result when you try to download from the manufacturer's database Plustek Support
This is the link to Windows 2000 pro Driver Plustek Diver Index
You can try it taking your own risk. Fixya doesn't have anything to do if a customer uses a software on his own.
You have to do two things to avoid system Instability

  1. Create a System State backup
  2. Create a System restore
Here is how to...
How to back up the System State
  1. Click on Start menu and Click on RUN (or Skip if you have the search bar in the Start Menu)
  2. Type in ntbackup and hit enter (you can type this in thesearch bar in other operating systems such as Vista. Hit enter when it finds and shows it to you)
  3. Click on Advanced Mode.
  4. Click on the Backup Tab.
  5. Locate the System State option and check the Checkbox.
  6. Browse and provide a Backup Location. Has to be a separate Partition. Will need some space as well. ThenStart the backing up. Will take 20-30 minutes depending on the Size of your System Related files and theRegistry.
How to create a System Restore Point
  1. Get the RUN box as I have explained earlier.
  2. Type in this and hit enter. /restore/rstrui.exe
  3. Click on Create a Restore Point.
  4. Provide a Descriptive Name and Click on Create to Create it.
Feel free to contact me again...
Thanks for using Fixya!

Is plustek opticpro 31 windows 7 compatable?

The OpticPro A3I is not Windows 7 compatible. (It wasn't compatible with Windows XP and they did not add support for the newer OS.) The OpticPro A320 and A360 are compatible with Windows 7. Support for the newest OpticPro A3 models is available here: http://plustek.com/usa/products/opticpro-a3-series/ .

If you have one of the other models in the series, please let me know. I suspect the OptiPro A3-U will be best under Windows XP in a dual boot, stand-alone or virtual computer.

You can run an XP virtual computer for free with Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate. Download and install Microsoft's Virtual PC and XP mode. Then install the scanner to the XP mode as if you are using a normal XP computer. The other options require a licensed version of XP. Virtual computers have one issue; they can not share files with the main computer directly. You will need to save files to external media (CD or flash drive) to transfer them.

I hope this helps.

Plustek OpticPro 12000P driver XP

I found this link on C-Net

It looks like the driver only works on Win 98. You can see there were some threads indicating that the Driver didn't work for Win 2000.

Installation

Here is the link to download the drivers you need for the OpticPro u12 Scanner. Just donload the right drivers for your computer operating system( Window 98, 2000, or Xp) then install. There is also a patch that you will need to download and install after you install the driver. This will fix your problem
