Question about Digital Cameras

1 Answer

My Nikon coolpix S10 camera was dropped and now the screen only says "lens error". If it is not touched the function returns to normal (has done so twice), but now the screen only say that one message and you can't turn it off or do anything). When it was turned off again and then turned on after a series of clicking noise the screen only said "lens error" and does not allow any other options(even turning off). Any helpful ideas would be apprecited. Thank you!

Hi,

try this out it worked for most of them who had a similar problem like urs:

Gently tap it twice at the end of the camera to ur plam and it will work again.
just tap it very lightly against the bottom of the camera holding it upright

When the camera (Nikon Coolpix S3100) is turned on the screen soon goes black and there is an error message that reads "Lens error". This camera is almost brand new! Should I just return it?

Yes, try returning it first. If less than 30 days, AND you didn't drop this camera, your store should accept it for exchange or refund.
But in the case that your store gives you a hassle and directs you to the vendor under warranty, AND the vendor refuses to repair the camera saying it has dirt accumulation or was dropped, see the following:
Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

Ouch!--I dropped my Nikon CoolpixS10 and the mesaage is "Lens error." What do you recommend I do. Catherine

Unfortunately Catherine if you are getting a lens error after a fall it means that the lens may have been knocked out of alignment on the guides that keep the housing on track so it moves back and forth smoothly, or the motor gears may be damaged or there is a motor issue. I recommend a camera shop take a quick look at it before you commit to having it repaired, that way you can decide the best course of action.

''Lens Error'' with Nikon Coolpix S10

Turn the Coolpix S10 on using the button to the left of the 'OK' rocker which has a picture of a camera and an arrow beside it. You may need to hold this button in for several seconds before it responds.
The camera should turn on in the mode used to view stored photos, and this may bypass the lens error message. Pressing the button again can get the camera to switch to picture taking mode. This worked on my S10 after I dropped it. Hope it works for you! regards Thomas Mann

Nikon coolpix s10, Lens error

This is a pretty common problem, especially on the coolpix range of cameras. Basically it means the lens has had some issue while driving in or out of the camera body, in some cases a simple tap on the camera side(not recommended by me) can fix the problem, in others you will have to send the camera to nikon to fix it but it will fall outside of warranty as its not considered a normal camera error.

Nikon Coolpix S10 Lens error

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Lens Error on NIkon CoolPix L2

Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.
