The back lighting fails - the CCFL tubes lose their power most likely because of a bad contact.Open the case of the monitor and press all wires firmly in their connectors.

The back lamps that provide the illumination of the
colors, is shutting down there are feedback circuits when there is a problem
with the lamps it will shut down the lamps. Replacing the lamps should alleviate
