Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then…

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

When I turn my window unit on, it will cool for 2 - 3 minutes. Then the fan turns off and the compressor continues to run for maybe another 90 seconds, then shuts off.

Make sure the filters are clean. Check what mode it is on as well. On heating, it is normal for there to be a delay before the unit starts up and then "run on" when turned off. Also check what temperature is set on it. If the temp is too high, the machine will cycle on and off as it thinks it has already reached the temp you want.

Refrigerator not cooling properly

There are several things that can cause cooling problem with your refridgerator. The first and most common is dirt dust and lint clogging the condenser coils. These coils are usually located underneath the refridgerator and have a small fan that blows air across them. If they are clogged, the refridgerator cannot get rid of the heat to allow it to cool properly. To check and clean these coils you must first pull out the refridgerator and unplug it. Remove the lower panel ( usually made of a cardboard material) this will give you access to the compressor and fan and coils. Check the coils for dust, dirt and lint. Clean out carefully with a vacuum cleaner or brush( you can get a brush specially made for this ) check the fan motor to see if it spins freely( some units may not have a fan) plug unit in to see if fan runs (make sure to temporarily turn thermostat down colder to turn on compressor and fan). If fan does not come on with compressor you may need to replace it. Put unit back in place and see if that solves the problem. If this does not help, you will probably have to have a appliance repairman check out unit.Hope this helps.

UNIT WILL NOT COOL. FAN AND HUMIDIFIER WORK. THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND SEASON USED AND THE UNIT HAS NEVER BEEN SITTING UP AND NEVER LAID DOWN OR TURNED UP SIDE DOWN. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

Hello,
A portable air conditioner may not cool for several reasons. Check the filter by removing the unit's grill and clean the filter.
Also check for clogs in the evaporator or condenser coils by light vacuuming. Make sure the evaporator isn't frosted over, but if it is, allow it to defrost and normal operation should resume.
Lastly, ensure the ambient temperature is lower than your AC's set temperature, as this can prevent cooling. However, if all of these steps fail to resolve your problem, the compressor may be malfunctioning, and in this case, the compressor needs to be replaced or repaired.
In summary, if the air won't cool, remove the grill and clean the filter. Clean out any clogs in the evaporator or condenser coils by vacuuming them and scrubbing them lightly with an old toothbrush. And since fan is working, you compressor might be defective.
I hope the above information is clear.
Regards.

My frigidaire model GHSC39EGOB0 does not cool at all. I noticed the fan got stuck with the wires. I fixed it but still the same problem.

Hi,
After fixing the fan, you may have to unplug the unit and then let it cool down before the compressor will start again...there is a thermal overload on the compressor that will need to reset....
It is possible though that the compressor got too hot a is ruined or that the start relay and capacitor are fried because of the fan stoppage. Let the unit cool down and them if the compressor will not start then check out these tips. They will give you more info on the compressor situation...

I have a Whirlpool Side by Side refrigerator. The model no is ED25QFXHT00. Two days ago my power went off and when it came back on it was not cooling.I unplug the ref and plug it back.

For a refrigerator to work properly, it must have several things. First, it must receive power. Second, the compressor (underneath the refrigerator) must run. Third, the compressor fan (close to the compressor near the rear of the unit) must turn. Fourth, the evaporator fan (inside the freezer unit) must turn.

Check out these various components.

Freezer works Refrigerator will not cool down

The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze

Side by side not cold

compressor overheated or stuck. also check starter relay...maybe broke.
if ever thing is alright,

let it stand for about 4 hours unplugged to cool the compressor.

plug it after 4 hours and if the compressor would still run for 10 seconds, then you have a faulty compressor.

tnx 4 using fixya,

No A/C

It seems that that the overload of compressor is tripping on and off, either your compressor overload is defective or the compressor itself
