Question about HP OfficeJet 6110 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

Hp officejet 6110 all-in-one Printer...press enter to align cartridges. I press enter and the same message keeps re-appearing. I cannot print anything out and have cleared down my list of print queued items. I have tried turning it on and off and taking out the power line and the lead to the computer, but it still keeps saying the error message an not letting me print anything out. I have taken out both cartridges and double checked that they are in the right sides and in properly - still no joy. Any ideas?

Hi,
This prints out an alignment page for your printer to check and see that all the colours are visible and lined up properly. Installation of the printer is not complete until you do this. It will then ask you if Alignment was successful, and if it is click Yes. Your printer will now be functioning properly.

Hello there,

Try cleaning print cartridges from HP toolbox

or reset process

Please see note at bottom re: powering on and off

1) If you know you are going through the re-set process. Ensure there is nothing in your printer que already when you want to power on again.

2) Plug printer/scanner directly into the wall, not a power bar or UPS... Read at one point, it has something to do with the electricity (KW or Voltage or Amps) factor and power requirements to the printer/scanner. However was very technical and don't remember enough details to explain properly, sorry... Anyhow, directly into the wall.

This is what has worked for me. Got original re-set process of solution from sillygirl.

3) Disconnect all cables from printer.

4) Clean the glass on top with alcohol and cotton swabs.

5) Then go through the reset process (press # 6 while plugging the power back into the printer).

6) If you have the CD for your printer it doesn't hurt to put it in your CD carriage in case your printer is looking for files or drivers. If CD starts to go to a un-install or full re-install just cancel and leave in carriage.

7) Sometimes helps if you first plug printer in.

8) Re-boot pc before powering on printer. Once re-boot has started and PC will start to look for printer.

9) Power on printer (press # 6 while plugging the power back into the printer to re-set).

10) Watch for point where your printer icon usually appears and plug the USB into the PC.

11) If this does not work then take the printer apart and clean the underside of the glass as well. Unfortunately need to go through re-set process again. May need to buy a set of screw drivers for removing the glass. They are different. (Torx)

12) In another solution it states - you must clean all the mirrors inside the scanner assembly q-tips work well (black box closed with two locks) also the lens and the delicate spaghetti-like lamp. Generally this works... Not everyone has done this part but worth a try when the printer is already open.

13) There is a black and white strip at that end of the scanner. Check to ensure the strip is there, in tact and placed correctly. This is what the scanner carriage aligns itself with.

Just so people know. I have posted solutions to this before that have worked for me. However, I really do think this comes down to a driver issue (do we all have XP, mine is actually XP Home Edition). Since HP no longer updates these printers not sure if we will ever see a driver that works perfectly. Once you get it going again it will all work great. The problem lies in powering on and off. Once you get it going without the scanner carriage jamming, leave it on! Even in the case of a power out I usually have to re-set again but can get it going, eventually (it can be very frustrating). Sometimes need to re-boot PC and plug USB into the PC while booting up and just about to look for your printer. This is to ensure it finds the printer/scanner. Also, when really desperate uninstall and re-install the hardware. Sometimes can try for quite some time to get it working again and eventually have to just leave it off for a few days then can get going again afterwards. Not sure if this has something to do with memory.

If you do a test print and any color is missing it won't pass alignment and keep giving the error. If you're happy with the printing, when it says press enter to align, press and hold the enter button and press the menu button. The error will go away and let you print.

Press menu and then press the Right Arrow key until you get to maintenance screen then press enter.
Option 2 is you align print cartridges.
Automatic cartridge alignment
Perform the following steps to align the ink cartridges:

1. Disconnect the power cord from the unit, wait five seconds, and then plug it back in. This will reinitialize the unit.
2. Print another alignment test page. If the Press Enter to align message is not currently on the front panel display, complete the following steps to print an alignment page:

2. Press the right arrow button (>) until Maintenance or Tools is displayed, and then press Enter or OK (depending on the model).
3. Press the right arrow button (>) until Align Print Cartridges is displayed, and then press Enter or OK (depending on the model).

To determine if the automatic alignment is functioning correctly, look into the output tray as the alignment page is printing; a blue light should be visible periodically on the page as the cartridges move back and forth. If this light is not visible, the product will not be able to align the cartridges and will require service. Service the product.
4. If the blue light is visible and the alignment pages are printing correctly, but the alignment pages still fails, there still may be a hardware problem with the unit.
If there are no other printing problems and you wish to continue, use the information in the Bypassing the ink cartridge alignment section below to bypass the alignment. The information from last successful alignment will be used.
If the message keeps reappearing or other print quality problems occur, service the product.

Changed cartridges, printer doesn't align or function


Something seems to be physically wrong in the mechanism.

Try the rolling wheels and the belt on which the cartridges run.

Hp 6110 Printer, add wider paper size. Also align cartridge keeps appearing even after I've pressed enter and the process keeps repeating.


Press the enter key and hold it while you press the menu button. That will make the align message go away, but if just one color is missing it will always fail the alignment. The paper size is chosen in control panel and printer properties, printing preferences.

My printer wont print it keeps saying press enter to alein cartridge


I just noticed in the link to your forum item that additional text appears that does not appear in the item itself. It looks like you are getting a message telling you to press Enter to align your print carriage. This is a common step after you replace an ink cartridge. According to HP.com, here's what you are supposed to do:

"A message will appear in the front panel display requesting that the ink cartridges be aligned. Press Enter to start the cartridge alignment. Two pages will print. Following the instructions printed on the second page, place the first page on the scanner glass in the lower-right corner and then press Enter to finish aligning the cartridges. Remove the page from the scanner glass when complete".

Hi ,
can u cet alignment print from u r printer if u get this printer .
please put this print on scanner & press scann button for scanning ........it will automaticaly align u r cartridges & printer will get ready for printing ......
