Hi, your security key, is the Key, that was generated in the router when you were setting up the router for first use. First, you put in your user name & password, then you go to security settings and set your WEP/WAP Key, this is the security code that must be used to logon to that network from the WiFi.
Now if you either have an unsecured network, or an unknown WEP/WAP key, what you have to do is, Login to the Router with a browser, and get through to the security settings, and Generate a Key, now when you generate the key, copy/paste this Number to a notepad document, save it somewhere handy, say desktop. Now finish off with the router, save all the settings and reboot the router, now you are ready to logon to your wireless network, now startup the PC, and find the SSID, The name you gave your WiFi connection, now when you select, you will be asked for the WEP/WAP Key, open the notepad document and copy/paste that number you saved into the place provided, there, now you have your security set and be able to logon to your WiFi & router.
It is all also explained in your user manual, i have included a copy below.

To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

I need the security key to my existing wireless netgear router.

The Security Key is normally used for Wireless routers to protect your connection from any unauthorized use. As you have said that you do not have the Security key for your router with you, the best way to connect your ACER laptop to the Netgear router is by asking your Wireless service provider to reset the security key & freshly reentering the same on both of your HP & ACER laptops.

Right, do not know what I am doing but here goes....connected desktop pc to wireless router, then tried to do the same with my Fujitsu Amilo laptop and can't, i've gone into adminstrator command prompt...

Make sure first that you know the wireless settings on your router. Take note of the SSID (wireless network name), wireless channel, wireless security settings (WEP/WPA, preshared key/passphrase/wep key/wireless network key).

For Win XP/Win Vista: On the system tray (lower right corner of the screen; near the clock), right click on the double-monitor icon that says Wireless network connection. Then select View available wireless networks.

You should detect the SSID or wireless network name. Highlight it, then if it asks for a network key, you need to type the wireless network key. Then click connect.

Hope this helps!

New epson Printer with WIFI asking for the PIN

You mean the wireless network key?

To get your wireless network key, do the following steps:

1. Open Internet Explorer, on the address bar type 192.168.1.1
2. There's no username and type admin on the password. If admin didn't work, use your own password.
3. When you have the Setup Page open, click on Wireless Tab, then click on the sub-tab Wireless Security.
4. There you can see the Security Mode. If the mode is set to WEP, the WEP Key 1 is your wireless key. If the mode is set to the WPA-Personal, the Passphrase or the WPA Shared Key is your wireless key/PIN.

Go to the router's web interface (192.168.1.1), in the wireless section go to Wireless Security. Enable WEP, you will create a WEP key for your wireless network, then that key will be asked to any wireless device that tries to use your wireless network.
