Either you are playing too loud or you have a malfunctioning protection light. does your amp seem to get excessively hot, as long as it doesnt, then your problem is prolly just the light itself...

What is the subsonic filter for?

Hello luckybear22,

The simple answer is that a subsonic filter prevents frequencies below the threshold of hearing, hence subsonic, from being sent to the subwoofer. Such frequencies result in a loss of available amp power and in the extreme can even damage the speaker.

Hope this helps.

Look into competition lines of different manufacturers.... Massive Audio DMX, Soundstream, Atomic APX, Incriminator Audio Death Penalty Series, Kicker Solo X etc. In car audio, you have to pay to play. Dont expect a 100.00 subwoofer to take 2000W continuously.
Massive Audio offers a no questions asked warranty. Even covers blown voicecoils!

DD, JL and pioneer in that order. I don't recommend any particular size but 12s are a good compromise.

If it's in protect mode, it probably has shorted output transistors. To eliminate other possible problems, read through the following page:

Performance Teknique wont work!!

If the amp is in protect mode, it probably has shorted output transistors. To eliminate other possible problems, do the following. I'll assume that you've checked the amplifier's on-board fuses.

With your multimeter set to DC volts, the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amp (not on the point where the ground wire connected to the vehicle) and the head unit on (so the amp will have remote voltage applied), touch the red lead alternately to the B+ and remote terminals of the amp. If the voltage is below ~11 volts, you need to check the wiring feeding whichever line is too low.

If the voltage remains near or above 12v, disconnect all speaker wires from the speaker terminals of the amp and disconnect signal cables from the amp. If it powers up, the wiring needs to be checked. If it still shuts down, the amp almost certainly has shorted output transistors and will need to be repaired.

If you want to try to repair it yourself, read through the following page:

Basic Amplifier Repair Primer

You may have a defective speaker or a wiring fault. Disconnect the speaker from the amp and measure the resistance across the speaker wires. The resistance should be near the rated impedance of the speaker.
