Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have a LG DR165 dvd recorder. I am able to set up the dvd recorder to scan in tv channels etc, but the problem I am having is that the programs keep scrolling through and I have gone through set up a number of times but i cant identify why it is doing this. It plays dvds perfectly. It is when I try to watch a station through the recorder that it just keeps scrolling through all of the channels. If I hold down any button on the remote it stops on the program but the minute I take my finger off the remote it continues to scan through all the channels. even when I go through the set up process it continually jumps through all of the options without stopping. It is like the unit is stuck on scroll. It has taken me many hours trying to work it out but no luck. please can you help

thanks for that. Yes the problem is dvd recorder keeps scrolling through the programs onthen dvd. It is odd becasue if I hold down any button on the remote the programmed channel shows picture fine but when I take my hand off the remote it continues to scroll through all of the channels that have been programmed. I already have looked up the LG site and googled the problem but no one posted the same program. I have an LG remote for another device and I am able to use that remote control but the same thing happens. thanks for your help.

All I can suggest is that the button is stuck obviously.Just try rolling the channel button(whichever way direction it is scrolling up/down)in all kinds of directions.Press down slightly hard but not too hard,it's hard to describe.Roll it all around, all directions for about 5-10 second bursts. It should unstick. If after several tries it does not unstick, just keep trying, unless there is an obvious hole nothing should lodge in between the button and the pad inside. If it does unstick but keeps getting stuck again at a rate which is still annoying,or even if it doesn't unstick,I would contact the TV manufacturer and see what they suggest.Universal remotes are not a good alternative because of the lack of a menu button but you have to do what you have to do sometimes considering the economy. Please let me know what happens.Good luck! Hi.

Check the connection cable, but more than this chack the PAL/NTSC settings. Both systems (TV and DVD) must be on the same standard used in your country, or you typically get the rolling picture.

If that does not solve the issure, the image rolling can also be symptom of an internal fault. In that case call LG at the number listed on the owners manual.

Check PAL/NTSC settings and cable as first thing.

    Hi.

Sorry, did not realized that the scroll was only on menus, not on picture also.

If you cannot stop menu from scrolling, that means that the problem is either remote control , or IR sensor, in some case a defective firmware may also be the Issue.

Call LG to find out if there is a firmware update available. There is no online update on LG page for this unit.

If there is no update start troubleshooting from remote control. Take off the battery and try understanding if scrolling is caused by remote. Borrow a programmable remote and test the set using the replacement.

If problem does not depend on remote, then the IR sensor inside the player must be replaced.

How do I get Freeview on my DVD recorder/player?

It's under the set up settings of page 17 and 18 of the manual.

It's part of the auto programming option - it will scan all channels. Make certain you select digital services and there is an aerial connected.

it means that your tv has to be on channel 3 or 4 to use device. once your tv is on one of those channels, you should be able to program your dvd/vcr to record and check to see if there is a menu button on your controller. if it is a newer tv, try setting menu on component1, aux 1 or anything but tv..if there is a menu button on controller for dvd/vcr player select that once you see the home screen on tv...

Useless at setting up. No sound on playback. Blocked timer record

You won`t get round the scan without an aerial. You still can set a recording as long as you set the recording channel as av2.Make sure the scart lead is fully in on dvd and tv,this can lead to no pic but sound,or sound no pic

My DVD player LG DR165 DVD Recorder is giving me an error.

PROGRESIVE SCAN will only work with an HD TV and it does not work via the scart lead. Select off for it if you have an old TV. If you can't get it to stop coming on by doing what it says to do, then you have an electrical fault on the LG.
PROGRESIVE SCAN itself is a method of getting high quality images on HD TV's via the special sockets at the back of the DVD.

Sounds like the laser head carriage slides or screw drive need oil or the screw drive may have dirt in it that will cause uneven movement or possible jamming of the carriage on the slide.

The carriage and drive screw need to move smoothly. The slides can easly be oiled. The screw however can be difficult to clean. Using paper can make it worse due to the paper fibre getting into the screw as well. You could try a lint free material to clean the screw and then oil it, preferably with a non drying oil.
