Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router
Enabling MTU on the router
Determine the proper MTU size for your ISP. If you do not know the proper MTU size, click here. By default, MTU size for Cable ISPs is 1500 and 1492 for DSL.
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.
Go to the "Address" bar and enter your router's IP Address (192.168.1.1 is the default IP of most Linksys routers) then press the [Enter] key.
A new window will prompt for a "User name" and "Password." Leave the "User name" space blank, type in your router's password (admin is the default password), then click OK.
Note: If the password window did not appear, click here.
If the router is not accepting the password, click here.
When the router's web-based setup page appears, set MTU to Manual. For Size enter the MTU value that you obtained in the previous procedure.
Click on .
Note: If the procedure does not work, verify if the connection drops even when computer is connected directly to modem. If the connection is stable when connected to the modem, update the firmware on the router. For instructions on how to update the router's firmware, click here.
