    I did that and all that happens is the pc screams at me the instant it begins to boot, but I will do it again and see if I keep hitting F10 it will take me to BIOS instead of screaming.

You need to power off the PC, install the new video card, turn on the PC and go into the BIOS and disable the onboard VGA, and set the BIOS to use the new card. i.e AGP slot.

Hi I have a evo d51c copaq and I'm not a video signal, nothing appears, and provide the processor and memory on another computer and all is well, the tube operating normally, I turn off and now will...

In this computer the video chip (the one that generates the signal) is part of the chipset of the motherboard - the one that joins all the other parts of the pc.
In your case the video chip has failed first, followed immediately by all the chipset. This means that the motherboard has died, cannot be fixed and it will have to be replaced.
Because this is an very old model the only place in which you could find another similar motherboard are repair shops or sites that sell parts from dismembered pc's. One like

O.k..so heres my problem...i just upgraded to a better video card on my gaming computer...and i wanted to put my old video card on my other desktop...its a compaq evo d51c...but i doesnt fit...i found out...

Hi,

PCI-Express videocards will not work in standard, older PCI slots. They are very different interfaces.

You can find older video cards that are PCI, but they are not very fast and have not been popular for ~10 years.

Does anyone know how to disable the on-board video card on a Gateway DX 4840?

You shouldn't have to disable it. If you put an external video card in, it should automatically detect it. If I remember correctly, the Gateway BIOS setup isn't very versitile. var fctb_tool=null; function FCTB_Init_aa27a9a758674a1f85bf228374a43f0a(t) { fctb_tool=t; start(fctb_tool); } var fctb_tool=null; function FCTB_Init_82787bbdfd2d41e79b0cc051f6668e01(t) { fctb_tool=t; start(fctb_tool); }

Problem with onboard video of a compaq sr2032x

The onboard video card is actually set to secondary when you plug in a PCI or PCI-E video card. If no video image is showing then there may be further damage inside the mother board.

I want to bypass the video card on the motherboard with a new one. How do I disable the old one?

When you say the video card on the motherboard I guess you are referring to the video graphics port at the rear of the motherboard? In some cases you don't need to disable the video port that is attatched to your motherboard. You can just purchase a new video card and when you insert it, plug your monitor cable into this port and when you start your computer it should be recognised. Just make sure that you match the video card connector to the type of video card slot you have on the motherboard. You will either have an AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) slot or a PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) Express x16 slot but not both. Before purchasing the video card make sure you look very carefully at the minimum system requirements, it generally should be ok though. If you just want to improve the graphics then a standard card should be adequate. What type of monitor do you have, flat screen or old box (cathode ray tube)? If you have a flat screen then chances are it can accept a high spec card. Monitor and card have to be compatible.

If you need to disable your onboard video port though then you would do this by accessing what's known as Cmos Setup. When you boot up your computer it will tell you which key to press to access setup, it's normally F2 or the delete key. Once you press this you gain access to the settings and you can search for the ability to disable the onboard video port. I'm pretty sure that you don't need to do this though, when you insert your card it should be recognised. I hope this is somewhat helpful to you. All the best. Andrew

Yes generally speaking when you drop in a videocard it typically will disable the built on one. You may have to disable it though. I know you said you did not see the onboard video in BIOS but there is almost always a setting in there to turn it off.
