Question about Necchi Sewing Machines

2 Answers

I have a Necchi Logica 592 that I purchased new in 1987. The feed dogs do not raise to the proper position and the fabric won't feed through. I need a repair manual and the part (parts) to fix it.

If , you go to www.tias.com you wil be able to purchase a copy of a technicians book, the Sears Kenmore Sensor Sew 100 was the same machine, Necchi made it for them. Parts are going to be next to impossible to get. My motor is shot, but everything else is like brand new, boards etc. I bought the book and that is why I knew it was the motor. Sometimes, ebay will have one for sale, but they want too much. I am using mine as a doorstop, LOL, I paid $800 for it new in 19884. Good luck

mvd011244 are you interested in selling your doorstop??? I need some parts for my wifes machine??
    e-mail alpinesign@comcast.net

Absolutely, I don't know what the shipping would be. But , it would be great to have someone be able to use it. Do you need the attachments? I would have to look where I put them, also, I know I have a few extra bobbins that I bought from Sears years ago. They are a stange size. I also have the original owners manual, cover and the repair manual from Tias. Make me an offer. I am listening.

  • alpinesign Oct 21, 2010

Yes I am interested in the attachments, etc. Shipping would probably be $25 to $50. If you can pack it up well, measure box and accurate weight I may be able to forward you a shipping label if you have ups or fed x drop offs near you. Would you accept $50.00 for the machine?

i have been down your road and think the problem ts in the feed dog cam actuator(it is the business end of the top mounted slid button for dog disenguagement). I have a new part for it, the fix but it is at the shop(X2). So if you have an adjustment expert let's see if we can get two running? Email to:bradley.bourcier@gmail.com

I have a Kenmore SensorSew Hundred that will not feed the fabric, otherwise everything else works fine. Know of anyone that would like a machine for parts? My email is: achzet@sbcglobal.net. I live in California.

I may have some of your parts required for fixing the broken cam that causes the feed-dogs to work as intended. They had a steep shoulder to overcome when shifting between free-stitching (with the dogs down). If excess force is used the intricate part will break. May be able to avoid this failure by cycling the machine by hand while gently repositioning the leaver, the steep ramp for moving positions do not occur over the whole rotation, only about 1/2 the revolution is aggressive. The other positions are preferred for longevity. Let me know?

Material won't move? How to adjust feed dog if that is the problem

Is the feed dog raised into sewing position and not dropped as for darning? Feed dogs need to be in the raised position in order to pull the fabric through the machine.

If the stitch length is set too short, it will cause the fabric to barely move thereby causing the machine to stitch in one place.

Raise your presser foot and gently rotate the handwheel and watch the feed dogs. Do they rise when coming to the front of the machine, move toward the back of the machine, drop down below the needle plate, and move forward to the front of the machine again? If so, the feed dogs are working properly.

If the feed dogs never rise, they are in the dropped position for darning or free motion quilting when you would move the fabric manually.

If, on the other hand, the feed dogs do not move at all, then they are seized and you should probably get your machine serviced.

The feed on my Singer 538 will not pull my fabric thru. Help appreciated.

Without fabric in your machine and with the presser foot raised, do the feed dogs move front->back? Are the feed dogs in the raised position? Is the stitch length at a 10-12 stitch per inch setting so that the fabric actually moves (try increasing the stitch length to see if it makes a difference)?

Does your machine have a presser foot pressure adjustment? If you are sewing light weight fabric, the pressure may need to increased so there is more pressure applied by the presser foot to the feed dogs. You can also try adding a strip of tear-away or wash-away stabilizer to the underside of the fabric as you stitch so the feed dogs have something to grip.

Are the tips of the feed dogs rounded? Could be worn and need replacement.

If the feed dogs are not moving, how long has it been since the machine was cleaned and oiled?

It was working now it seems to be frozen the needle part wont move

If the feed dogs remain below the needle plate, and the feed dog lever does not activate them, then perhaps something is disconnected in the feed dog mechanism. The feed dogs should rise when stitching begins.

I have a Necchi 537FA and I want to know what the knob (on the right hand side) with the dot and knit symbol does. This knob is the last one on the right hand side. Thanks in advance for the help.

I suspect the knob on the lower right hand side is the feed dog knob. The "knit" symbol is for the feed dog. One setting drops the feed dogs so you can move the fabric yourself, ie free motion quilting. The other setting raises the feed dogs so the machine will feed the fabric for you.

My feed dogs will not pull my material through.

Check to be sure you have not inadvertently dropped the feed dogs on your machine. Dropped feed dogs are used for 'darning' or 'free motion quilting.' Below is info from Troubleshooting Manual:

Fabric does not feed through the machine
The feed dogs are lowered. Use the feed dog position switch to raise the feed dogs. 81
The stitches are too close together. Lengthen the stitch length. 42
The wrong presser foot was used. Attach the correct presser foot. 179
The needle is bent or blunt. Replace the needle with a new one. 34
The thread is tangled. Use scissors, etc., to cut the tangled thread and remove it from the race, etc.

On Model #535 FA The feed dogs do not come up high enough to advance the fabric forward. Is there an adjustment to raise the feed dogs ? ( Necchi sewing machine )

If you change the number of your stitch length it will automatically adjust the feed dogs. If it is still a problem then you will need it adjusted. Insure that your pressure foot is placing enough pressure that causes the feed dogs to pull the material forward. To adjust the feed dogs there are different ways to be adjusted. I wouldn't suggest you try to adjust the height of the feed dogs.

Feet not feeding and thread bunching up

the presser foot or what ever foot your sewing with does not feed the
fabric,, the feed dogs in the needle plate are what moves the fabric
to be sewed, the feet only hold the fabric against feed dog so the
machine can use the needle to sew the fabric.
if the fabric is not moving then the feed dogs have to be checked
can you see the feed dogs in the needle plate area are the up or
down?
do you have a manual for the machine?
a manual help to know where the feed dog lever is, I'm sending
you a link for a manual for the machine, so you can look for the feed
dog lever, if the feed dogs are up then there is something wrong
with the feed dogs & they need to be checked.
but if the feed dogs are down then look in the manual & see where
the feed dog lever is & put it in the up position & see if that brings
the feed dogs up to the sewing position, if the feed dogs do not
come up then the feed dogs need to be checked.

Fabric will not feed

DO NOT pull your fabric through. Under the face plate you will find the feed dogs. They are two rows of "textured" metal things that grab the fabric from underneath and pull it back. This pulls your fabric through. Look in your manual for info on the feed dogs. They are adjustable. You need to raise the feed dogs to a higher position.

My necchi mod.910 i cannot get the machine to do zigzag stitch, and straight stitching is a problem - i have to pull the material in order for it to move

The Necchi machine has a lever in the bobbin area that lets you move the feed dogs up and down. If you accidentally moved that, the feed dogs are in the down position and won't feed the fabric forward. Make s ure you can feel the feed dogs slightly above the plate. If they aren't move the lever until they do. :)

Fabric doesn't advance

Have you checked your feed dog position? The fabric will not advance if the feed dogs are in the down position. For the machines which don't have the raise/lower feed dog capability, there is a plate that covers the feed dogs and must be removed to advance the fabric when sewing.
