Yahoo Browser connects to internet, but Explorer&AVG update wont

Yahoo Connects but IE and AVG wont
1. Try opening AVG and adjusting the connection settings.
2. Go to Start/ Network connections/ Local area connection/ General tab/ Scroll down to TCP/IP/ highlight it and click properties. Make sure "obtain IP address automatically" is checked. Under the advanced setting there, DHCP should be enabled.
3. Verify setting in Internet Explorer under: Tools/Options/ Connections/ Lan Settings/ select "automatically detect settings"

You might also check your AVG program for a firewall conflict or block there.

Let me know if this helps

Avg update for dell computer

It's probably not your fault. AVG has frequent update server outages, sometimes lasting days. If it's still not working Monday I'd remove AVG and install Avast ( or one of the other free ones ) and see if that will update. If so, AVG is the culprit. I gave up on AVG a while ago for just these reasons.

Best virus/spyware protection

be careful when using symantec, it is a real resource hog! It does a good job, but is also expensive and costs annually to use. I use all the same items as GregL except i have had a lot of problems with SP3 :/ then again i normally install it on a working machine, and it messes somthing up. On a fresh install of windows XP it should do fine (SP3 that is)

Error action failed for the avgfwfd in f:file registration AVG firewall NDIS driver instalation failed AVG text message exception

you need to uninstall AVG, probably through the Registry since AVG does not have a removal tool.
Once you do so, you can get it to install correctly. Also check that you have the latest windows updates.

My webroot spy sweeper with antivirus is not working It has been 14 days since the last it has work I have already paid for this.!

This is only an idea, but if you aren't on dial-up you can download 2 very good FREE programs. Go to download.com and enter AVG Free into search, Download the file, it's about 46MB. Save it to your temp folder (right click Start/explore/ (C) / Windows / Temp make a new folder in Temp called "software' or something. Then in download.com search for ad-aware free (it's by lavasoft) Save also to (C)/windows/temp/software.

Now install. When installing AVG select advanced instead of standard when you get to the box that gives the choice, when you get to where it confirms if you want to download and install the free AVG toolbar, untick (don't install it) Select USE FREE when you get to the registration box, and also don't register your details (unless you want emails from them)
Update it but don't run a scan yet.

Ad-aware by Lavasoft. Install it. Make sure the correct plug in's are ticked or not re what email software you use when you get to that box. Don't register this one either.

When they are both installed go to the desktop, you will have two shortcut icons for Ad-aware, keep the one that looks like a green world and delete the one that looks like a sheild with a beetle on it.

Open Lavasoft and Update it.
Open AVG and Update it.

Restart your computer in Safe mode (usually by pressing F8 at startup) Run a Full Scan from Ad-aware. Select and delete Critical and Privacy Spyware when scan completes.

Run an AVG full computer scan. Delete or remove anthing found.

Restart in normal Windows. From now on keep them updated and run at the minimum weekly scans (Smart Scans in Ad-aware) These two will cover Virus and Spyware very well, you can delete or at the least disable your existing program.

Hope this helps, I have used these two free products for over 5 years with no problems. Make sure your Microsoft Updates are current.

you need to be connected to the internet to install the updates, try manually updating the avg, and it will work if you are connected.

I'm trying to download the avg free edition virus software and it is saying i need a vista patch. i don't know what that is or means

Have you run Windows Update? If not, you'll need to do that before installing.

Windows Update is located in the Control Panel at the very bottom.

(Note: on Windows Vista, a prompt called the UAC prompt may come up asking if you want to allow the updates. You MUST click "Allow" or "Continue", whichever it shows, to continue)

Double click on the icon(or single click if that's how you have it set up). On the right side of the window that comes up there should be a button that says "Install Updates" Click on that and let it finish.

It could take a long time, and may need to restart your computer. Try installing AVG again after you update and let me know if that helped.

Can't uninstall avg appears every time i open can i set a time for it to scan

Good morning!
Yes, you can set up the time for the scan. Open AVG and click on the bar named "Scheduler" located on the left side of the AVG window. You should be able to set the times for both the update function and when you want the program to run. I have my updates set for 4 am and the test for 5 am. Works for me..
Hope this helps and have a super day!
