I have a new computer with Vista. Ever since I have been having quite a few problems. The latest is that I can't print pictures. The printer works fine when the paper size is Letter or Legal, but when I change the size to 4x6, nothing happens and nothing appears in the cue. Any ideas?

It is quite possible that your printer cannot "keep up" with the speed of Vista.I am using an H.P.Photosmart all-in-one #7760 with Vista Ultimate with no problems.I would suggest, with such low prices these days,to upgrade to a newer ,faster printer.
You need to clean the encoder strip, that's the clear strip that runs behind the carriage assembly, you can clean it with a Q-tip damp with alcohol, the strip is fragile so don't press too hard. If you look with a flashlight you should see the area that needs cleaning.

Before installing the patch, the all-in-one software must be installed

If you look in the 96 (Black) cartridge loading area you might see that the retention spring has poked a hole in the circut board. I am now either trying to replace the ink cartridge holder or purchace a new printer. I have about $70.00 in new ink that I can't use now. The 2610xi worked great until the spring popped out of its holder.
Hp has a new driver package available from its website. However, it's best to install the basic printer driver under vista, as the software package does not work properly (even though it says it's for vista).
