Question about Kenmore Dryers

1 Answer

I have a three year old Kenmore coin operated gas dryer that operates intermittently. The dryer comes on, the drum rotates and the fan comes on, but the flame fails to ignite so there is no heat during the drying cycle. . It seems to fail most often after it has been used a couple of times so I would relate the intermittent problem to heat. I have had the coil replaced two times and the wiring and connectors checked by a professional repairman. I would guess that the next step would be to replace the igniter, however, the repairman assures me that the igniter is like a light bulb and would only fail completely and could not fail intermittently. Do you have any suggestions?

Disconnect power to the dryer then bypass the cycling thermostat and the high-limit thermostat by taping the wires together or jumping a wire between them. Pug the dryer in, start it and she what happens next. Either or both of the thermostats are malfunctioning if the burner works fine with the two bypassed. If that is the case, unbypass one of the thermostats to see if the flame goes out. The unbypassed one is the culprit if the flame goes out; otherwise it is the other one that is malfunctioning. Redo the test, if the flame goes out, with the second one unbypassed and first one bypassed.

Please indicate the exact model number of the dryer for further troubleshooting and repair advice. What's your problem?Squealing Speed Queen dryer

The drum of the dryer has a belt that turns the drum while in operation. These belts are not hard to replace and if your old belt is still attached you can visually see how it is positioned on the drum. However, there are also at least three rollers that carry the drum allowing it to rotate as it is being turned by the belt. These rollers are also not that expensive and are relatively easy to replace. Since the machine is 20 years old you may experience some problems finding the parts (maybe not)> You can check with the company via the internet and find out. Just give them the model number and a description of the part. The pulley that is attached to the shaft of the motor that drives the belt that turns the drum could also be worn out. Replacing the pulley on a machine that old can be trying but not impossible. If you have a technician check out and make repairs on these potential problems it probably cost well over $180 but if you have any mechanical ability you can probably do the job yourself if you can locate the parts. Just make sure the machine is unplugged from an electrical source before removing the back and the rest is just work.

Kenmore 600 Series Gas Dryer, about 2 years old. Makes a loud scraping or rumbling sound as drum turns, not constant but in a cycle, as if off balance. I checked to be sure it is level. What are the likely...

It is normal for the dryer to make sound due to the high velocity of air moving through the dryer drum and exhaust system.
A clicking noise may be the timer advancing.
Check the load for objects such as coins, nails, etc. Remove promptly from dryer.
It is normal to hear the dryer gas valve or heating element cycle on and off during the drying cycle.
The dryer should be level and installed on a solid floor.

Good Luck and have a nice day.
Rating the solution is highly appreciated.

Hiya. My Kenmore dryer model 110 97282800 72828 will not dry (heats up slightly). Vent is clear and drum rotates. Adequate airflow coming from machine. Any help is greatly appreciated.

if it heats for a while you have bad gas coils, when you change them out watch out for the coil with three prongs on it,there is a metal piece that sometime gets stuck in old coil when you remove it,if it happens just poke it out of old coil and slide it back on post where new coil will be installed

Gas Dryer won't produce heat

Hi, thanks for the inquiry.

It's most likely a thermal fuse. Basically, the voltage has to go through the fuse before it goes to the ignitor.
It should only cost you about $90 to repair if a technician comes out to fix a fuse.
I wouldn't try to repair it unless you have some knowledge of electrics. If your dryer is less than 12 years old, I would recommend you fix it. Hope this helps.

Best of luck :)

Maytag gas Dryer is Noisy

If the noise is like a shaking of rattling , like coins being shaked , then it is an object trapped inside the drum.

If instead the noise is a loud grinding , that may get louder on high speed, then it is usually a bad drum bearing.

If dryer is not cooling, check that the noise is not coming from the ventilation fan.

Rollers and belt tensioner can also make noise.

Dryer isn't working

I had success.  I found the manual....unplugged the dryer, and rotated the inside drum several times to check for any coins or small objects.  I did not find anyything, but if something small was lodged it is not hampering the dryer.  I plugged it back in and it worked right away...

Kenmore Dryer Model 417.80042990 problem

Could be just that. Thin coins like that can get into the drum baffles (those 3 "vanes" inside the drum that lift the clothes). It's a simple matter to open the top, remove the baffle(s) and clean them out.
