Printer not working

The alarm light and data light blinks

  • smile27 Jan 08, 2009

I was given this printer but have no instruction book. Brother HL 1440 Laser
Therefore I have no means of researching the problem.

Problem: In the middle of printing, the Alarm light and Data light began flashing red in sink with the flashing green Ready light. As the printing was getting very light I installed a new Toner cartridge according to directions. Computer is registering that it can print, but it is not. My computer is a Mac OS X.

On this printer, the alarm and data lights mean that the toner cartridge is empty. When you replace the toner, be sure to slide the corona wire cleaner across and back. This is the small light blue plastic piece on top of the drum cartridge. You'll see a small arrow in the plastic. Just slide it back and forth once or twice each time you replace the toner cartridge.

If all four lights are blinking on and off, with no change on the alternate blinkings - then it is the CPU that has the problem. I don't know the cost involved in repairing/replacing that, but it might be cheaper than repalcing the printer.

If you do decide to replace the printer, I'd recommend going with the HL5240. I've upgraded from HL1440's to the HL5240 and have had great results overall. We put the units through an extreme workout, and they keep on trucking.

SOURCE: Drum, alarm, and data lights on--won't prnt

This unit might need resetting!

Here's how..

There's two ways to reset it

First: Soft Reset
1. Open front cover.
2. Hold down button located under LED's until all LED's are lit.
3. Release button and make sure drum LED is off, then
4. Close cover

Second: Factory Reset
1. Turn the printer off.
2. Hold in the circular button on the front panel of the printer.
3. Turn the printer back on.
4. When the DRUM light is lit by itself let go of the button.
5. Hold in the circular button on the front panel again.
6. Once the Alarm light comes on, let go of the button.
This will perform a factory reset on the printer.

I hope that's everything you want.

When I turn on the printer, the data and alarm lights come on. There is nothing in the printer que. I have power cycled the printer. I was trying to print a pdf file.

From the Service manual:

Toner low: The Data and Alarm LEDs blink once every five seconds.

Have just changed refilled cartrige, alarm light is blinking

The printer does a longer green flash and then the amber flashes. you need to tell me how many flashes between the green flashes, to know what the problem is.

Alarm light is RED and data light is AMBER - both are on permanently

This means toner is empty. This condition was probably preceded by a period of "toner low" indications, data- and alarm LEDs blinking shortly every fifth second or so (maybe you never noticed that). Replace toner cassette and it should work normally.

We have a Brother H 1240 Laser printer. The alarm and data are blinking and it will not print. I have tried to reset with no results. Can you tell me what to do?

generally, if the alarm data are blinking every 5 seconds, that indicates the toner is low.
there are no other possible errors. may be your toner is completely empty as well. are the other 2 lights blinking or on?

Blinking red and yellow light

Generally if both the (red) alarm LED and the (yellow) data LED are both blinking, it is an indication that the tone cartridge needs to be replaced. You should be close to out of cartridge.

Printer won't print

According to the operation manual: If alarm light and data light blink every 5 seconds- TONER LOW (purchase more toner and have it ready when the 'toner empty' is indicated). If alarm light and data light stay lit- TONER EMPTY (replace toner cartrige with new one).

Alarm and data lights are both on and when i go to print nothing happens

take y'r drum and toner out of the printer.. now there should be two translutent white circular film on either side of your toner... what u have to do is take a small piece of paper and make a bead out of it and insert that small paper bead right in front of those film.. u can insert on both side or on just one...

if u don't find those circular film then open y'r HL printer toner loading tray and turn y'r printer ON.... u will see green or red light coming out of either side of y'r printer where toner sits.. thats the place u should look for those film on y'r toner....

it worked for me... hope it works for u too...

PEACE..
