Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

1 Answer

We had a power failure during the last cycle of my Neptune front loading clothes washer and now the washer is partly full of water. Power is restored. Tried to restart a cycle, but it won't start ("door lock" light goes on briefly then turns off).

The door lock switch is not working, either its got short or the door is not properly locked. Are you able to open the door?or its door locked and cannot open?If you are able to open the door then try to hear the click when door locks. If its not clicking the door is not getting locked.Apply bit pressure and close the door and check. Also if the door lock light goes off this indicates that door is not closing, and the machine will not perform this the door is locked, detected by the machine/.So the door lock latch/switch has to be checked. If faulty then door lock assembly has to be replaced.remove wax motor which spins and closes the door and the micro-switches.Wiggle the door lock and its internal connections a bit and see of that helps before replacing the assembly. But if if if the Door Switch, Door Locked Light Switch, and the Door Lock Spin Enable Switch checked ok with an ohmmeter by disconnecting the wires to them and measuring across them. Then the faulty part is R11 resistor. This resistor is very weak part and can blow due to power surge if the door assembly parts checked ok.The R11 resistor is located on control board of the unit:-- To see how it looks and where it is located click this link directly:-- http://members.shaw.ca/gavb/ --------- Also check the fuse for motor, Check the fuse on the motor control board which is located underneath the washer you will have to open the door and take the four screws off and pop off the front then you will see the motor contol board on the lower right you will see a fuse it is soldered in and see if it is fried if it is then you will need the new motor control board kit which will get you the board and the motor.
This are the possibilities and has to be checked,to confirm the problem. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com

Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation

Is your door lock light on when machine is in use? I am having the same issue as you and I believe it is because my door is not locking during use.

I get a PF error. That goes away and shows 52 in the display. The buttons light up, but pressing any buttons does nothing but to make 3 beeps.

PF is Power Fail, means the Power was cut off. PF Power failure Power to the machine has been lost during the last cycle. This may occur on start up of a new machine due to factory testing.

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washer Model MAH4000AWW low last spin

two problems here,
your shaft seal is running on its last leg
the sound is unmistakeable and always described the same...
the water issue, you probably have a trickle leak through the cold water valve
the mixing valve is quite an easy repair, but I would have to say with all honesty, it probably time for a new machine
the hub seal is a tub replacment call
2 hrs of labor if hes good
and the tub runs around 500.00 dollars
sory for the bad news

What does the max extract feature do

If the washer is removing all of the water from the washer during the spin cycle it is likely working properly. Not an expert but I believe max extract causes the washer to spin for a slightly longer period of time in order to remove more water from the clothes. We use it regularly because our clothes come out to wet otherwise.

Maytag neptune frot load will not reach full spin speed.

It will not spin while washing, it's more of a rocking back and forth. As far as the spin cycle. If it's not reaching full speed I bet you'll notice that it's not doing the full cycle because the load is bouncing around and cause the washer to shut off. take some of the clothes out and watch it spin the water out.

My maytag neptune washer will not perform the final spin cycle. Therefore the clothes are still wet. Any solutions

Maytag washer parts, GE washer parts, and other brand names on the market are all designed to work interdependently with each other. This system starts to break down if even one part begins to encounter difficulty. Your washer's spin cycle flings a large amount of water out of the clothes, but if the water can't drain, the clothes will soak it all back up, defeating the purpose of the cycle. Excessively wet clothes after the spin cycle may not be caused by faulty washer parts, but rather a blocked drain is a very good bet. Check the drain line for a blockage and try again. If your hose is kinked or bent, this can also cause a drainage problem. The failure of one simple part creates a larger problem for all the washer parts. What can cause a blockage? A number of items; paper left in the pockets of your jeans, coins or other debris, even socks. Check your hoses, and make sure your laundry has empty pockets for future loads.

only 2 or 3 real problems with this machine, bad machine controller( behind console) although lights on are sign that its good,
Either the pump is clogged and not draining water so it will never spin let alone spin full speed with water in tub, i also doubt that because it seems that s there just water within the clothes and not a tank full of water,
which leaves the last Major issue with machine and that's the motor controller, not telling the motor to spin.. could also be a bad motor but i really doubt that all....

This is a funny machine because depending on when it was made (serail number denotes its age) im looking up the model and your manual states that you have a 3rd yr to 10 yr part warr on the motor, Well on earlier models you cant replace the motor itself it comes as part of a kit, "NEPTUNE REPAIR KIT" which also includes the motor control board. reason i mention that is I"m able to get a motor controller covered by warr(as an authorized maytag technician) if the model will take the neptune repair kit, sure youll need to pay service and labor but the a part would be covered.
