Question about Nikon D70s Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a Nikon d70 SLR. I had this camera completely cleaned and tuned up 3 months ago. Recently I can not take pictures. The battery powers the camera, but the shutter wont engage. An "error" message appears on camera. It has not been dropped or damaged that I know of. Is there any reset button or any troubleshooting advice other than take it to Nikon.

Read the manual on how to do a two-button reset. Also: from the nNikon Support Page on the D70::
It has come to our attention that select electrical components in a limited number of D70 cameras may, in some instances, fail affecting camera performance and/or operability.
While only a limited number of D70 cameras are affected by this advisory, if (1) when a memory card is inserted, your D70's memory card access lamp blinks, locking camera operations and preventing operation, or (2) with no memory card inserted, the camera will not turn on despite the battery indicator showing a fully charged battery, Nikon Inc. will service it free of charge.
To obtain complimentary service for cameras affected by this advisory, please click the link below to download and print the Service Return Form. The Service Return Form provides return instructions.
The Frequently Asked Questions button at the bottom of this page offers more information about this advisory and, should you have more questions, also provides information about how to contact Nikon.
We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

I recently swapped lenses on my Nikon D70 digital whilst it was switched on,I then realised and switched it off, but now it doesn't switch back on ?. What should I try ?. Thanks, Mark

I'm not aware of any reason this should be an issue. The only time lenses should not be removed is during an exposure, any other time should be safe - power on or not.

Owners manual for Nikon d70

http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Product-Archive/Digital-SLR/25214/D70.html

The website told me that the d70 has a FAQ section which should have answers to many questions posed by owners of the D70 camera.

The PDF files are not available for download, per se, but answers to questions can be found in links to the above web page.

Camera will not power up changed battery just went dead Nikon D70

Fixing a Dead Nikon D70 - Green Blinking Light My first-generation Nikon D70, which I bought the day it was released to the market a few years back, died on me a few months ago. Without a card in it, it won't start, and when you insert a CF card in the slot, the green data-access indicator flashes on and off. If I hold down the Menu button, the menu flashes on and off along with the green LED.
d70_87x1.jpgAs it turns out, this is a known problem with the original Nikon D70 cameras, and Nikon USA has a service bulletin out on the camera body. They'll repair it free of charge.
So, if you have the same problem, visit this service bulletin page, http://nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/Service-Advisories/D70-Service-Advisory.page click on the D70, and you can access a PDF file that you'll need to print, fill out and send to Nikon along with your camera body. Be sure to take your camera strap off and remove the battery, and don't send any lenses or other accessories.
Mine's on it's way to Nikon now - they say the turnaround is five days (plus shipping time).

I see a spot on every image taken with my Nikon D70

This is probably dust on the sensor.

You can clean this yourself or you can send the camera to Nikon.

If you want to see what you have to do, search for "nikon d70 sensor cleaning" on the internet.
There are instructions and videos to help.

It involves taking the lens off and locking up the camera mirror using the menu option.
Then either blow it off with a camera blower or clean the sensor with a cotton swab.

I did this myself on my D80, it is not hard but you have to be careful.

Nikon D70 Shutter Problem

I have a Nikon D70 which failed completely but exhibited similar symptoms.
I was fortunate in that I had taken out 3 years free warranty at the point of purchase and therefore saved the £90 (sterling) repair cost.
Nikon cameras are designed to be robust and should give a lifetime's service. Most should give 150,000 shutter actuations.
There is a piece of free software available on the Web that will tell you how many actuations were recorded on your recent photos.
Unfortunately, in the fast moving world of digital cameras, the value of a 2nd user older camera is very low.
You need to decide if you were outgrowing this camera body and want to replace it with something better or whether you would be lost without it. My repair took more than 1 month and I was not able to take any photos during his time.
I hope this helps.

Nikon D70

Greetings,
It is actually an error message generated by your compact flash and means that the card is no longer readable. A lot of D70 owners have reported this error without being able to find another solution other than reinserting the card or changing the card to a different brand. In my D70s I use Sandisk Extreme III memory and, knock on wood, have not yet had this error. You could also try cleaning out the memory card slot and check to see that all pins are aligned and not bent.
Good Luck,
-WN
