OS xp doesnt come with sound drivers. U have to install sound drivers for ur system. see if u have it in ur motherboard cd, or else u have to download.
OS vista & win7 comes with sound drivers already.
When did sound work fine on your computer. Try this :-
Open device manager(Start - run - type devmgmt.msc) and expand sound video and game controllers.
Right click all the submenu underneath and choose uninstall.
(Note : All the menus will not give you an option to uninstall, dont worry)
Uninstall those which gives an option followed by restart your PC and see if it works.
If it doesnt, click start - run - type services.msc and look for windows audio service - make sure ot is automatic and started, if not make it.
Just open the cabinet of u r CPU and on motherboard u find the sound card connector behind that u find a small IC on that u will be having name of the sound card i.e,for example Realtek,Sigmatel etc like this or else it will be RTL followed by some number just make a note of the number and put in google u will get a link
If it is a Branded Desktop just put the model number in google
IF it is a Laptop just put the brand name and model number in google u will get a link
I will give u some of the Helpful Driver Websites Links
Make sure the operating system is correct (I have it set to Windows Vista 32bit as default, which your unit should be) and download the only driver for audio located on that list. It says it is a STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio, which you'll know if that is correct once you download and attempt to install it.
If you have problems installing the driver itself, let us know. Hope that helps!
Hi, sounds like 2 things, one the drivers have been uninstalled or faulty sound card.
Only way anyone can provide you with the drivers is by opening up the machine and giving us details on the model of sound card. or onboard sound.
If you have them please repost and i will get you them..
The reason for the message will be the fact that windows doesnt recognise that there is a sound device available because the driver for your sound card or onboard sound is not built into XP and therefore you will have to find out what make of audio you have and install the relevant driver.
