It should take 134a. Look on the data plate and it should tell you.If not you can always contact the manufacture to be sure.

What kind of freon was used in this unit when made

You didn't give a model or brand so here is what to check. Find the model--serial tag on the air conditioner and it should tell you type of freon and usually the amount. Most older air conditioners were freon R22.

Air conditioner isn't blowing any air through the vents. Compressor runs outside but blower isn't blowing air through room vents

Hello, kindly check your air blower if is running if not u need to call a service technician to check it, if it is running and blow some air, i guess you don't have enough freon to your condenser, (freon is a liquid like a liquid nitrogen that running thru the aircon to create a cold air. Thanks

When i turn on my air conditioner in my 1999 durango it blows out hot air. can i put in antifreeze myself or do i need to take to the dealership?

Antifreeze is only for the radiator, does not affect the air conditioner, make sure you have the setting on cold, if it is still hot than take it to your local air conditioner re gas station, most auto electricians do it, dealerships usually send them out which you end up paying extra for!!! You just need a re gas in your air conditioner.

AC compressor will not engage

It could be the capacitor, it could be a loose wire connection, it could be a delay switch or a contactor/relay.

Air conditioner is not cooling

Are you sure the compressor is engaging? It normally wont engage if the line pressure is to low(meaning the system is out of freon.)
