This is always a hardware problem - you'll need to contact the manufacturer or a repair shop to have it replaced. Backlights are a common problem, and the only short-term solution is to smack it, and try to get the loose connection to work again... but it usually doesn't work. The backlight is an integrated part of the LCD screen, and gets replaced as a single unit. Good luck.
